I've gone several camps, nothing boring about it....if you know what your watching. I used to take my staff and pick up points of emphasis, footwork, drills etc.I can't imagine actually paying to fly out to watch practice. It's super boring. To each his own, I guess. Congrats on retiring.
Congratulations....I did 30 years, going on 8 years of retirement....still stay involved a bit. Hold free camps for kids, teach them what to do to prepare for scholarship opportunities and coached a couple of college all star games. Giving back to the game feels amazing. Good Luck!Just retired from coaching last month ,33 years ! just booked my flight got room s ,going to Cowboy training camp for the first time in 25 years , extremely excited!

Did you attend any of Parcels camps in San Antonio? If so, how did they compare to JJ’s?Some of my favorite times of watching the Cowboys in TC came when they were performing at St. Edwards Univ. while Jimmy J. was coaching. Those were the days when the Cowboys were winning championship titles, and everything was so exciting to watch. Outstanding times, for sure.
I took my vacation from work and attended their workouts every day. It was fantastic. Their practices were incredibly intense.
I attended a couple but they didn''t compare well to the camps that Jimmy had. I felt Jimmy's camps were faster paced and more physically intense.Did you attend any of Parcels camps in San Antonio? If so, how did they compare to JJ’s?
I attended all the padded practices as I worked about a mile from the Alamodome at HEB Headquarters. I never thought that Parcells training camps were tough. He played the mental games with his players. Every coach has his ways and Parcells certainly was very successful in his career. I was still in the service when training camp was in Austin so was unable to attend.I attended a couple but they didn''t compare well to the camps that Jimmy had. Not only that, but the atmosphere was closer up at St. Edwards Univ. where you were much closer to the action and even able to talk to the players before and after practice. The players came onto the field and chatted with the crowd. In San Antonio, that wasn't possible, mainly due to the distance that the fans had to maintain in the stands. I took my son with me when he was a teenager and he loved it, also. The intensity was for real.
I got to meet and talk with Jerry for about 20 to 30 minutes in Austin. Dallas Cowboys Weekly interviewed me afterwards.....it turned into a 2 page article. I still have it, should have framed it. Jerry might not be a great GM, but he truly is a people person. Made me and my staff feel like we belonged. First thing I told him was, I want to shake the hand of the man that fired Jimmy Johnson. Lol! He was All In after that.I attended all the padded practices as I worked about a mile from the Alamodome at HEB Headquarters. I never thought that Parcells training camps were tough. Well if you’re a football nerd it’s not boring at all. I had so much fun watching those practices in San Antonio. And you could get close up enough to see how each position group went through their drills. You could easily see who was atheletic and who wasn’t in NFL standards. You could see who was really trying to improve and those who were just going through the motions. And the 7 on 7 and 11 on 11 in the padded practices were so much fun to watch. It gets competitive.I can't imagine actually paying to fly out to watch practice. It's super boring. To each his own, I guess. Congrats on retiring.
Enjoy the experience!Just retired from coaching last month ,33 years ! just booked my flight got room s ,going to Cowboy training camp for the first time in 25 years , extremely excited!
July 2011 -on vacation- returned to visit my family.Man, I envy you. I attended all the practices every year when they were in San Antonio. Some great years then. Parcells prowling around yapping with all the players getting in their heads. Good times.
Will doIf you are there on August 8th or at the Rams game on the 11th, shoot me a message here. I'll buy you a congratulatory adult beverage.
...that's awesome mate. Dont forget your Dak Sucks banner. Let him know, how we feel over here.. .Just retired from coaching last month ,33 years ! just booked my flight got room s ,going to Cowboy training camp for the first time in 25 years , extremely excited!
I wanted to go this year. I really did. Then the whole off season “all in” crap happened, and I literally changed my mind.Just retired from coaching last month ,33 years ! just booked my flight got room s ,going to Cowboy training camp for the first time in 25 years , extremely excited!
I never had the opportunity to see them practice in Thousand Oaks, but I imagine it was pleasant in that cool weather. Good teams back then. When I was a teenager I got to go in 81 and 83 in Thousand Oaks. It wasn’t a huge deal like now and I was about to walk around by the practice fields and even chatted with Tom Landry.
My first training camp was in 1992.Just retired from coaching last month ,33 years ! just booked my flight got room s ,going to Cowboy training camp for the first time in 25 years , extremely excited!
When he walks towards the crowds there are some serious Fan Boys falling all over themselves. Part of the reason he thinks he is doing a good job.I’d like to go just to have a chat with a few people that chant Jerry’s name as if he is some sort of superhero.
And some wonder why the media, most of whom couldn’t care less and are just trying to earn a living, don’t risk their jobs with tough questions. When he walks towards the crowds there are some serious Fan Boys falling all over themselves. Part of the reason he thinks he is doing a good job.
Of course, I have also seen a fan call him out and the Jones had the fan and his family escorted out.
The dictator is a tad sensitive.
Congrats. You must have been pretty devoted to soak up all the heat that that TC suffered. It was perhaps the hottest that lives in my memory.I was able to go see them once at training camp back in 2000 or 2001 when they were in Wichita Falls TX. I was so hyped up!
