I love this stuff. I'm an American through and through but there is no denying how cool old Europe is. I did have the pleasure of having a drink in the oldest bar in New York but it's just not the same. This country is so new comparatively.
McSorley's was such a big draw for me in my younger days. There was something special about grabbing 1/2 dozen fresh poured drafts at a clip, sharing a smile with young lady at the bar and then running into her in the john.

Off the top of my head I can think of 3 pubs I've drank in older than the U.S.
City I grew up in has a pub that supposedly opened in 1515, place is a dump and was definitely a box ticking exercise having a pint in there right enough.
There's a much nicer one in Edinburgh that although none of the original building's still there is meant to have been the site of a pub/inn since the 1300s and they claim Mary Queen of Scots ate/drank in it.
My favourite is just north of loch lomond and opened in 1705 as an inn for highlanders to stop at taking their cattle to market. Used to always stop there for a beer and some food after a day in the hills when I still lived in Glasgow.

There goes the first of my 3

Doing a three week Scotland England trip. In Heathrow atm waiting for connecting flight to Inverness. I like taking trips over the pond in early December less touristy. Sunny in London atm.

I have to isolate for 1day until my pcr test result comes back negative. Took the test while I was waiting for connecting flight. On board now, taking off soon. Had a tour booked for tomorrow at Cairngorms National park had to cancel that one and they only do it once a week on Viator.

Ditto; love to hear your impressions of Scotland.
So far Inverness is nice. On weekends this place is overrun with young bar goers, It’s like a mini Hoboken NJ.

Weekdays much better. So far I did a tour of Isle of Sky. Was awesome! Tomorrow is Highlands and boat tour of Ness and urquhart castle.

dec 9th I’ll be heading to Edinburgh to do tours from there. Dec 16th London for a week. Flying home 23rd.

Im not eating Haggis! Sheep lungs! What loon came up with that idea!

Before I arrived I knew the UK was cloudy but I was still expecting to see stars here in Inverness, but I can only see one thing shining in the sky, I think it’s Mars.

I read online that sometimes they can see northern lights from here, no luck so far, just dark sky’s!

If you have time and are a scotch drinker, take a tour of the distillers around Dufftown when you're in the highlands... highly recommend Macallan's distillery for a tour and tasting.

I’m a big single malt drinker, Glenfiddich mostly. I had a tour booked for that distillery 1st day here that had to be canceled because I was waiting for test result in isolation. On dec 8th I have moray firth cost and Glenfiddich tour.

You and I would get along very nicely. I spent a few years in Aberdeen working the North Sea oil fields. Developed a very great appreciation for single malt and, in particular, the peaty/smokey ones from the west coast.

You should try it, it's really good. Veggie ones are surprisingly nice as well if you're not up for the offal. White pudding is tremendous, probably prefer that to haggis. Make sure to get at least one breakfast with tattie scone and square sausage, wash it down with some Irn Bru for that authentic taste.

If you're going to Edinburgh get yourself to the Christmas Market at Princes Street. Freezing cold, wooly hat, a bread roll with roast pork and a mug of mulled wine.

Don't know if you've already sussed it out but based on your comments on whisky elsewhere if you've got a spare evening you should try and get a table for dinner at the Scotch Malt Whisky Society on Queen Street. Food is (or at least was when I lived in Edinburgh and had a membership) excellent. After your meal you get access to the private members bar with exclusive cask strength whisky.

I knew that they drive on the other side of the road in the uk, but I had no idea they do the same thing with jacket zippers. I bought a Men’s Clan MacRae windbreaker at Eilean Donan Castle and the zipper is on the wrong side!

Just got to Edinburgh today. Very different feel here. In Inverness they seem to not like the English very much, not so here in Edinburgh. Did the castle and royal mile. I may book some more tours outside of Edinburgh, not really impressed with Edinburgh so far.

Tomorrow Loch Lomond, Sterling Castle, and The Kelpies.

In my area of NJ people cross small streets from anywhere not always using crosswalks. When ever I do it in other places/countries people always look pissed. Pedestrians should always have the right of way!

Too bad about Edinburgh. We really enjoyed our time there... I suppose it helps having friends serve as your personal tour guides.
