Travis Frederick: Cowboys' offensive line 'not even close' to being best in history

This OL could be the best ever. They just need to stay together which is problematic.

I agree. They are closer than they think. However, I like young Santa Clause's (Frederick) take on the subject. Stay humble and be dawgs.

Honestly humility gets pretty annoying after a while, if you have the talent then no one can stop you no matter what any player says. They gassed him up with promises of being the best ever and now they want to act all humble.

A little concerned with how invincible everyone is making the OL out to be. This group better stay focused!

Smith has the best philosophy, be known as the hardest working line in NFL history and the rest will take care of itself.

If these guys can continue to get better and improve we'll have a group similar or better to that of the great Broncos line that had 6 separate 1,000 yard backs and two Super Bowls to their credit.

Every interview I watch with Travis he has that annoyed attitude like Scandrick. I think he's probably already annoyed with Collins for what he said. Take a chill pill Travis. .

On the Cowboys' offensive line. Is it the best offensive line ever?

Travis Frederick: I don't think there's any reason that we should deserve to be called that. Anybody that's making that assumption should study more about who the greatest offensive line is and what that's like. We're not there yet. We're not even close. The best thing we can do is to continue to work and continue to improve.

He doesnt want a nickname for the OL either.
when the media and fans say they are the best, it just motivates other teams to play their best to try and prove they are not the best.
Better to just say we have a good line, but aikman just goes on and on about it, and so do some others in media.

Before the GB game the GB players said they were tired of hearing about the dallas line., and look how that turned out.

» Early '70s Miami Dolphins: Carried by dominant blocking and a pair of 1,000-yard rushers, theDolphins became the only undefeated team in NFL history despite starting backup quarterback Earl Morrall for 14 games. Center Jim Langer and guard Larry Little made the all-decade team for the 1970s. Guard Bob Kuechenberg has been a Hall of Fame finalist several times. Tackle Norm Evans started for 10 years in Miami, earning a pair of Pro Bowl berths.

» 1970s Oakland Raiders: Right tackle Bob Brown, left tackle Art Shell, guard Gene Upshaw and center Jim Otto are all in the Hall of Fame. The latter three are in the discussion for the best at their respective position in NFL history.

» 1970s Buffalo Bills: Christened "The Electric Company" because they turned on "The Juice," O.J. Simpson, this offensive line paved the way for a 3,000-yard team rushing performance in 1973. Simpson became the game's first 2,000-yard rusher, accomplishing the feat in a 14-game season.

» 1970s St. Louis Cardinals: Perhaps the nastiest offensive line in history, this group is renowned for popularizing power lifting as a training technique. Pro Bowl guard Conrad Dober set the tone, appearing on the cover of Sports Illustrated with a headline that read, "Pro Football's Dirtiest Player." Before he was a famous broadcaster, Dan Dierdorf was a Hall of Fame tackle, going entire seasons without allowing a sack.

» 1980s Washington Commanders: Famously nicknamed "The Hogs," this line got down and dirty to block for Hall of Famepower back John Riggins in Joe Gibbs' high-powered offense. Guard Russ Grimm is in the Hall of Fame, tackle Joe Jacoby was an all-decade pick and center Jeff Bostic and Mark May made it to thePro Bowl.

» 1980s Cincinnati Bengals: An underappreciated group, the mid-to-late '80s Bengals blockers struck awe in opponents with their monstrous size. Anchored by Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz -- widely viewed as the premier left tackle in history -- and four-time Pro Bowl guard Max Montoya, this offensive line kept 1988 MVP Boomer Esiason clean in the pocket and opened wide lanes for James Brooks and Ickey Woods in Sam Wyche's unstoppable no-huddle attack.

I think he's just annoyed with the media, like Scandrick.

They're both smart dudes, with Travis being borderline genius, and they get stuck answering a bunch of dumb questions.

I'd probably be a little annoyed too.

I sort of feel sorry for Collins making this remark, but, this line is going to teach him how to work at being the best, and I bet he will!! He is going to be a contributor to this oline sooner than later.

I don't. Collins could be right, considering the overall athletic ability of players todays game, top flight coaching, advances in techique and wieght training ect. Dallas may indeed have the best young Oline ever to suit up.

Same thing I was.

Okay then.

Your concern is that the O-Line is overly confidence and unfocused, Frederick came out and says it's absurd to say the line is the best in history (I highly doubt he's the only one on the line who thinks this, I doubt the staff even thinks this), so he addressed your concerns.

What the forum or any Cowboys' fan thinks about the line doesn't matter. People here can think Randle can jog to 2,000 yards this year can go ahead and think that, I'm not concerned about our staff letting our O-line know they still have work to do.

Days leading up to signing: "Get Collins! Greatest OL of all time!"

Press conference: "Greatest press conference ever! Love his attitude!"

A month later: "What was he thinking? Should have never said that. I'm sure the other guys are ticked."

I find it strangely odd that there weren't more of these takes before and immediately after he signed. It wasn't a big deal then, it's not a big deal now. He wants to be a part of a great OL and work towards that. Funny how people complained for years about not having fiery, passionate players, and now when we do, people want them to shut up.

You might want to read my post again I never said the OL was unfocused or overconfident I said they need to stay focused. It's not just Cowboy fans or this forum that's making the OL out to be invincible it's members of the media. It's the FANS and the media that are overconfident and that's concerning. The Cowboys run into trouble when they start reading their press clippings and listening to how great they are. A lot of pressure and anointing oil has been placed upon the OL. Many including those in the media think the Cowboys running game won't miss a beat despite having 3 average backs.

The one area the OL hasn't been very good is in pass protection. Romo attempted the fewest passes of his career in which he played at least 15 games but was sacked 29 times including 5 times vs Washington resulting in another back injury causing him to miss a start. Everyone has been comparing the OL to the Great Wall of Dallas of the early to mid 90's but the Great Wall could not only run block but pass protect. In 94 and 95 Aikman was only sacked a combined total of 28 times which was one fewer sack than Romo suffered last season and Aikman didn't have the escapability that Romo has. Romo has taken 100 sacks the past 3 seasons so the OL still has a long way to go to be as elite as the great Cowboys OL of the 90's.

Wait..

I've got a good idea.

Why don't we just paint targets on the backs of all the OL, RBs and QBs..

that would be better than 3" headlines proclaiming them the Best Ever in History?

That way every team and sportswriter can take dead aim and fire away?

What is wrong with this team?

We have drowned for years in mediocrity and humiliation..

and we have a tiny bit of success and all of a sudden..

people and players can't shut up?

Insane.

Let others tell us what we are.

It can wait.

Unbelievable.

To be fair he was just reiterating the very same pitch he was given to by JJ. One of the reasons we lucked into the player in the first place...great young OL with 3 1st round picks already present, etc. He had to feel a little taken back that the whole selling point is taken under the rug of him as soon as he states it after ink is dry. After he signs, yeah you're up against Weems and carry these pads. :D
