When is that 'window'?

Has it closed now with regard to Travis Henry?

If Henry failed a drug test as you suggested then the Broncos are responsible for his rehab. Just like if he had torn a knee at their OTAs. Teams have a commitment to injured players and the league treats failed drug tests like an injury -- something the player needs to rehab from. If he failed a drug test and the team cut him knowing that, they'd be on the hook for his contract until a grievance was settled.

Could be another 'drug issue'.

I wonder if they'll look at Shaun Alexander now?

Doubt it. They signed Michael Pitman a few days ago.

Sorry, but that answer doesn't jibe with players like Kevin Jones and Shaun Alexander getting released.

Those teams didn't seem to have 'commitments' to them.

Seems like a blatant contradiction to me.

But that's just my opinion.

Alexander? What are you talking about? Where is the injury there? He started to suck, that was his issue.

Jones? He was well enough to practice for other teams. He likely preferred an early release rather than one at the start of TC (where a team CAN release a player who fails a physical).

And I think this piece from the CBA pretty much will end this argument:

Section 6. NFL Drug and Steroid Policies: No Club may impose any discipline against a player, including but not limited to terminating the player’s Player Contract, as a result of that Player’s violation of the Policy on Anabolic Steroids and Related Substances or the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse, or for failing any drug test, provided, however, that the fact that a player has violated the Policy on Anabolic Steroids and Related Substances or the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse, or has failed a drug test will not preclude the termination of his Player Contract if such termination is otherwise expressly permissible under this Agreement or the player’s Player Contract.

He had a wrist injury that was still an issue up until he was released.

I'd look into Kevin Jones' status a little more if I were you. He's still far from healthy.

Fine. That's clear enough.

And the Broncos didn't publicly state it was because of a failed drug test, that was my speculation. Henry's certainly got enough baggage that there could be several reasons.

Maybe they were simply tired of Henry's act?

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here?

Do you feel that Henry will file a grievance?

The option for the players there (or any injured player) is this they could a) wait until TC and have the team fail their physical then release them or b) become a free agent ASAP. I think logic would suggest that any player in that situation wants to get cut as early as possible

My point was that the speculation that it was a failed drug test is likely to be incorrect for the reasons I've cited.

Fair enough.

But if it turns out that he failed one, you've got a retroactive  coming!
