I like this idea, however I worry that neither Campo nor Grantham would be willing to sleep with Letterman.

The guy was the ultimate game manager but played to his strengths so you never saw him put up big numbers but I can see how smart he is when he analyzes the games each week....
...if JG screws up this year and is asked to take a hike I would love to see this guy considered for the position unless we get a new coach with an offensive mindset (Like Shanny or Holmgren)

People like you crack me up because they go by what the popular opinion is rather than by any real knowledge.

The media has painted Trent Dilfer as a game manager who rarely took chances and didn't turn the ball over. The truth is quite a bit different...

In his 14 year career, Dilfer threw 16 more INTs (129) than TDs (113). By contrast, Romo has thrown 35 more TDs (85) than INTs (50).

Oh but what about fumbles you ask? Well, Dilfer also lost fumbles at a higher rate than Romo has.

Overall, his turnover% was 5.17%, Romo's is 4.38% (total turnovers / pass attempts).

Oh, but he must have turned the ball over a lot early in his career and became a "bus driver" later on right? Wrong!

His best seasons were his 3rd & 4th as a starter (his lone PB selection was in his 3rd year as a starter). The year he was the "Ultimate Game Manager", 2000 when the Ravens won the SB he threw 12 TD passes and 11 INTs . His INT% that year was 4.9%. By contrast Romo's WORST year he had a 3.9% INT%. In fact "turnover Tony" is at 3.1% this year, which is actually pretty good for a QB.

Even worse is the fact that Dilfer didn't start every game that year, in fact he only started half the season. The great Tony Banks started the other 8 games and his INT% was 2.9%!

The "truth" is that Dilfer was never a very good QB and turned the ball over a LOT throughout his career. The perception in the media that he was a "bus driver" was because the ravens didn't require him to win games, they just hoped he wouldn't lose them. Their defense and running games were so good they really just needed a passing game to keep opposing defenses honest. In truth, Tony Banks was much better as a "bus driver" that year than Dilfer was.

Dilfer was a high draft pick who turned out to be a decent journeyman QB but nothing more. He lucked out in being signed by the Ravens in 2000. They knew his true worth when they let him go the following season in favor of the great Elvis Grbac.

The media is always trying to label guys and they gave Dilfer the "bus driver" label but it really never fit him.

Anybody know how many RBs have stepped up to becoming OC's in the NFL?

Just curious

And if you homers do not like it ....... tuff.

I would love that! I was pulling for Coach Joe when Switzer was canned and then again when Gailey was fired.

I was also pulling for Mike Singletary when Parcells left... Just sayin 'zall. :rolleyes

I expect to be panned, but I would be thrilled if Michael Irvin were to become our head coach, as long as he brought in some good coordinators. There have been few Cowboys that were better at motivating men than The Playmaker.

I agree that he would be an excellent motivator but there are a lot of other qualities a HC has to have that I don't think Irvin possesses, at least not yet. I wouldn't mind him being an assistant though.

We already have two comedians playing those roles.

I think you have it backwards. Letterman is known for his offensive-ness lately.

In all seriousness I think he could make a great coach some day.
He's smart enough.
