Cowherd details how he wouldn't build his organization arounda guy like TO. "Here's a guy who's crying after games, saying 'Gimme the ball', this isn't a guy that you build a billion dollar franchise around."

Dilfer said that might be true, but I think that becomes less important in Dallas, because TO isn't going to be the brightest star. Tony Romo is the real deal. I went back and watched every throw he made this season 4 times, and he is just super, super special. He is going to be a great QB going forward for a long time.

He also said something about the high maintenance of guys like Tiki, Shockey...and how they drain the energy of the QB, and of the team. Team guys build energy, high-maintenance guys drain team energy. That might have been when Cowherd started ragging on TO, but I missed that part. I think Colin made it about TO - Dilfer didn't.

My ears just perked up hearing Dilfer talk, as well as hearing him just speak so glowingly about Tony. Basically he sounded amazed when he was talking about watching Romo's throws throughout the season.

Edit: Oops...put this in wrong forum. :(

I really hope we get one more top WR for Romo this year, along with a change of pace back with speed and vision to run screens, etc.

Yeah, Cowherd gets a little old sometimes with his "don't marry the stripper just date them" song and dance. First of all we are going to build around Romo, TO is a piece of the puzzle. As long TO plays at a high level, why not keep him. Sure he has his antics, but what superstar athletes don't have their antics.

The team is not built around TO.
He is not the only WR to cry for the ball.
Romo may prove to the real deal. He needs to re-assurt himself in more ways than one.

Trent Dilfer? :laugh1:

Well, superpunk, you have to dismiss everything Dilfer says, because what would Dilfer know about QBing?

At least, the last time there was a Dilfer thread on here, that was the prevailing opinion when he said something about Romo that wasn't as glowing....

So....dismiss away.

The thing he purposely overlooks is that Dallas did not marry TO. His 3 year contract was set up very favorably for Dallas. They could have cut him last off season or this off season with minimal impact on their salary cap. Plus 3 years is not that long in the big scheme. They didn't offer him a 5 or 6 year deal. That meets the definition of dating, but not marrying.

"I went back and watched every throw he made this season 4 times," That's impressive! Something I'd hope Garrett would do. Him being on the payroll on all.

"and he is just super, super special. He is going to be a great QB going forward for a long time."
My sentiments exactly.

First of all, if you watch Tony Romo play the games, you know he's special and he's going to get even better. The people who rag on him clearly haven't seen him play on a lot of occasions. I've heard some of the reasons why people think he's going to flame out, and they are just talking to hear their own voices. They don't have legitimate reasons.

Beyond that, Trent Dilfer is going to be a good addition to a studio somewhere. He's going to have a mic in his hands the day he retires, and he's one of the few guys who I think will do a very good job.

You don't build a team around a WR anyway, even if he is Jerry Rice in his prime. If you build a team around an individual player then it is the QB and no one else. You can build a team around a LB corps or secondary, O-Line, or front-4 but the only individual player you build around is the QB.

The Cowboys of the early 90s built their team around Troy Aikman, not Emmitt or Michael. This team will be built around Tony Romo and it will be a contender for a long time to come.

You don't and Dallas hasn't although there is a mis-perception that they did build around TO.

That's cause they's stupid. :D

What kind of moron would build a team around a 34-year old WR?

Personally, I think Dilfer is going to make a pretty darn good booth guy when he decides to hang em up...I read a lot about how great a lockerroom guy he is and teammates, especially QBs love him.

Nice praise from a guy who I enjoy who pontificates

Trent dilfer did win a super bowl last time I checked which is more than most of the so called experts like the sean sailsburys, john claytons, shaun kings, and that romo hater skip on 1st&10 can say.. (how that doosh has a nationwide audience to talk too still is beside me)... :lmao:

Steve Young has said the same things about Romo. Said he is a very special player that thinks you can win some Super Bowls with. Said that he has that same personality that a Joe Montana had-you teammates know that you have a chance to win just because of your personalality no matter how bad of game you playing. Can't really say that about a lot of qb's in the league. Romo just has to go out and prove but he really thinks that he is the real deal and will enjoy watching him. Makes the qb position fun. Also thinks the Giants have a good chance of winning the Super Bowl due to Pats defense not being all that great. Would have love to see what the Cowboys would do against this defense with all of its weapons healthy (Terry Glenn).

That's hard to hear.
