Not initially, but when he gets familiar with his teammates and this system, could Lance be the QB you insert quickly to throw the other team off by running RPOs and eventually drop backs when the other team gets worried about the RPO? This would make Rush the emergency QB who is inserted only if Dak goes down. What say you?

He's not even a year removed from 2nd ankle surgery...

It's a good concept though at least year away

This is the first thought that hit my head. This guy can be used as a Swiss Army knife.

  • Teams who are carrying two quarterbacks on their active roster on game day may carry a third, emergency quarterback (from the 53-man roster) who does not count against the team's game day roster;
  • The emergency QB will not be allowed into the game unless the two active quarterbacks are injured or disqualified from the game;
  • The emergency quarterback must be removed from the game if either quarterback is medically cleared to return to play;
  • Teams that choose to have three quarterbacks on their active roster on game day may not utilize an emergency quarterback. NO 4th emergency QB

If they devise some RPO type plays for him later into the season (I doubt the reason they traded for this guy is to replace Dak), I can see how that would be more valuable than an extra DB or LB to cover kicks, many of which are touchbacks.

Hard to do since he likely won’t be active unless someone is injured

It shouldn’t be difficult for Lance to learn the system. It’s similar to what San Francisco runs. I could see the Cowboys coming up with a few packages to get him on the field this season.

Too early for this though I like the idea. I really wish the Cowboys were able to get Lance in here sooner. Would have loved for him to be able to learn the system and play through the preseason.

This trade saves the team from having to draft a developmental QB next year, but it would have been fun to see if he could have pushed Rush for the QB 2 job this summer.

True, but he made the most of it which is why he kept the job.

Dak is a quality starting QB, and as a rookie he looked like he'd end up as much more. He earned a position as a starter in the league by his play on the field. Not so much by what he did in college or his rookie camp. Dak should be a lesson that there's more QB talent out there that can perform if given a chance.

And Tom Brady only got his job because Drew Bledsoe got hurt all those years ago. If you hate Dak, fine, but weak arguments like this don't do much to support your stance.
It's funny how many lept to Dak's defense when I made a simple obvious and factual statement about how Dak got onto the field in response to someone else posting how Lance may take the QB job if he gets on the field - just like Dak did.

Swiss Army knife . Hmmm . :facepalm:

I would like some good old fashioned QB completion . Leave the gadgets in Arizona and the like . Surprised the Cardinals didn’t bite .

He was used by the Niners to get a fourth round draft choice. He must be the phillips head in the Swiss Army knife. It works! Cowboys got screwed.
