They won’t extend him.

They would’ve already done it.

Jerry got burnt on the first deal. He knows it. He won’t get burnt again.
I hope you are right. However, I have very little faith in Jerry or Stephen when it comes to negotiating. I think the key time to worry about them making the ultimate mistake (extending Dak) is during training camp. There was never a need to rush negotiations because they were never going to dip their toes into signing high dollar free agents. They had plenty of CAP space to sign the rookies and any cheap veterans. We currently have $3.8 million cap space and have another $9.5 million coming June 1st. Jerry likes likes having himself and the Cowboys in the news. Right now Dak not having his contract extended keeps the Cowboys in the news. It will ramp even more once training camp hits. Then Jerry can hit the media jackpot by extending Dak without about a week left in training camp. Ole PT Barnum does it again.

If Lance has a great preseason and the Cowboys go into the Bye Week 2-4 with Dak playing terrible then oh boy….

You think the PR push (that Jerry’s is probably behind) is bad now…
2-4 is to put it charitably very unlikely. I would say the expected record after 5 games is 4-1 and before the bye 4-2. I think you picked a bad timeframe though to set up your idea though. The reason I picked 5 games is because the 5 games after that could be rough. After the 4-1 start the teams they face (in order) are: Lions, 49ers, Falcons, Eagles, and Texans. So likely 4 first place teams, and maybe 5 depending on how the Eagles open up, in 5 games. Lions, 49ers, and Texans are uphill battles to put it kindly, and even if they split with the Eagles again that means one of the two games will be a loss. If they lost 4 of those 5 I would not surprised which is why I am surprised you picked that opening 6 game stretch when games 6-10 are almost certain to be the gauntlet this season.

What has Dak done in 8 seasons that gives you this “chance in the playoffs” belief in him?
He won a playoff game on the road which is a first for the Cowboys in almost 30 years and he did it against Tom Brady who was 7-0 against the Cowboys. I don’t care if Tampa was an 8 win team. We got our butts handed to us at home by a 9 win team in January. Regular season records don’t mean crap in the playoffs. He beat Russell Wilson in the playoffs when Wilson was still a great QB. He brought us back from a two score deficit in the 4th quarter to tie the game against Aaron Rodgers in 2016 but our defense choked. I see plenty of hope with Dak if we have a good enough team around him. When our defense plays well so has he. I bash the team and players and if I didn’t think Dak had it in him to win a championship I would say so.

There’s been QBs like Steve Young and Doug Williams go on to win a SB on a great team. They had their struggles on lesser teams. Dan Marino was 8-10 in the playoffs because he didn’t have good enough teams around him. If a team is flawed it shows up in postseason. There’s no doubt Dak is good enough to win a championship on the right team. Jimmy Johnson has said it and so has Troy Aikman and both are very candid and opinionated. No QB is going to win anything with the Cowboys until they build better playoff teams and defenses.

PR push? Journalists asking questions and the organization’s representatives answering them doesn’t amount to the former. I’m not sure where this notion came from.

Enjoy the farewell season, bro.

Not gonna argue with ya. We’re never going to agree on Dak.

I need to screenshot this, I feel the same way!! Yes we're going to see him this season bar none. In the back of my mind I swear I can see it and it's going to burn me up that they're going to extend him to some crazy deal, I know it's coming!!!!!!!
Trance is not playing this year unless Dak gets hurt.

I think it’s too early to start this PR campaign right now. There is zero reason for it. If Dak is done after the season it would make way more sense to talk during TC and PS. Right now they’re setting expectations which can lead to failure and disappointment. Like I said I think it’s odd to have this PR push right now for Lance, JMO.

What's odd ??

Clearly Dak is in his last year with the boys .
Lance is the future .
The Jones boys want to embrace that .
Why talk to Dak in TC/PS when you no longer want his stench on your team .

Its pretty obvious whats going on .

The only ones having a hard time grasping is the DakDavidians

https://www.dallascowboys.com/news/trey-lance-at-my-best-heading-into-qb2-battle

Trey talks about QB2 battle, and how he has learned over the past year. And how things are different between Dallas and SF.

"Lance has grown close with Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb and other players on the team as he gets settled into Dallas and settled into a shot at rewriting what his underperforming career has been to this point. With just two months sitting between now and Lance taking the field at training camp to begin that rewrite, he feels he's at the best he's been in his NFL career."

Sounds like Dak is taking him under his wings. This is what I am looking forward to the most in TC and the PS games.
I would hope he is at his best. His previous best wasnt good enough to be the number 2 in sf.

you are nuts. Ive never been a dak lover, but if Dakis or isnt here means little for Lance. Only Lance winning over the coaches would help him return. They arent handing him a 30 million dollar deal if he stills tinks to take over.

You are in lala land if you think Dak isnt coming back. The only question is the dollar figure.

You're on record here thinking Dak would have a new contract by March 13th.

Stay being wrong, bro.

Why? He's on an expiring contract with no way for the Cowboys to contractually keep him here. Meanwhile he has a front office that wont spend in free agency to help him and an owner that publicly throws Dak under the bus to explain to the fans why they can't participate in free agency. I would assume it's 50/50 that Dak even wants to come back. I would think if Trey Lance shows progression under McCarthy it's 50/50 the Cowboys would want him back.

Not saying it wont happen, it certainly still could, but I think the odds are getting lower by the day that Dak remains unsigned. Honestly the dollar figure is the one piece that should be pretty well established as we know the historic value of 30 year old MVP vote getters. Unless the sticking point is from a no trade clause, 4 years vs 5, or something similar I don't really see it being a contractual issue. I'd have to think the biggest hesitation at this point is simple non commitment from one side, if not both.
