Tripping?

Someone tweeted out the clip of the Frederick tripping play. Everyone should take a close look at it. It is not tripping because Frederick's leg never makes contact with the defender. The pass rusher went down because Collins was blocking him on one side and Frederick hit him with his hands and shoulder on the other.

Refs who react to the result of a play and not the actual play should be fired. In this case the ref saw the player go to the ground and ASSUMED he was tripped. He did not see tripping because there was no tripping.

I am not saying this call changed the outcome of the game. The Cowboys could have gone 4 and out on the next series or just came up short of a TD to lose as tie expired. But this penalty call did effect the way the outcome of the game was determined. It deprived the Cowboys of a lot of possibilities to determine the outcome.

Having said that, the Cowboys did have another two plays to get the 1st down. Admittedly, 3rd and 11 is a lot harder than 3rd or 4th and 1, especially in that weather. But on 4th down, Dak threw a good pass to Cooper who got both hands on the ball. Maybe the weather effected the play, but that's a ball Cooper should catch. It was good enough for a 1st down. Cooper dropped it. Game over. Just like the ref has to make the right call in a clutch situation in the game, the #1 receiver on the team has to make that catch at that point in the game.

Doesn't matter. Refs won't get fined or fired and all we'll get is an "apology" by Goodell and the NFL. The call could have changed the outcome, but at the end of the day, we always seem to lose our momentum in big drives rather it be with turnovers and drops, or by suspicious penalties. This team and league is a joke.

I think they call it on the energy being emitted from his leg, that although no contact was made, still reflects an intent to violate the rules. Frederick needs to make sure the energy stays within his body and does not transmit through his aura to effect the pass rusher. Good call.

That's why I'm in favor of reviewing all penalties within the last 2 minutes of the game. Both of those tripping calls were bogus and killed the drive. The latter cost us the 1st down and possibly the game.

I thought I heard Joe Buck say there have been 4 tripping calls in the league all year and we get two of them in one game at critical times. Think the officials are trippin! I say refgate is real.

You know you made a terrible call is when the national media comes out and say that it is atrocious. That was not the only bad call NFL officials had yesterday. In the Raiders/ Jets game the Raiders were flagged for what could be the worse roughing the passer penalty in the history of football. I am not good at posting video but it is out there. It did not effect the outcome of the day but the Jets did score a TD on the next play. The NFL has a major problem on their hands with the officiating this year.

Garrett should have raged over the refs after that tripping call, not remain like an innocent child on the sideline.

I read there have been 9 all year with 2 coming in the Cowboys Patriots game.

The NFL likes it this way.

Facts

Has only been called 7 times all season

Only two teams have had tripping called on them twice in a game since 2010.

7 calls for tripping all season long and then we have two in one game. This was something Belichick had to have asked the refs to be looking for and so we had what we had. Phantom tripping calls ala Belichick.

That's what kills me. It's such a little called penalty that it's mindnumbing that it was called on us twice in the same game.

Agreed. There is little doubt in my mind Belichick was in the ref's ear before and during the game about "tripping" to the point the refs were basically focused on finding anything that even resembled tripping.

Oh and watch................ I have little doubt the NFL office will come out and defend the calls and say technically, they are by the book calls.

Im sure later today, it will be like the phantom double pump that LP did against Washington.

BB likely was in the refs ear so they were looking to call it

Absolutely in total agreement but Belichick is perfectly within his rights to do things like this. It's yet another thing the patriots get from their coaching that we do not get from our coaching. Belichick did his homework.
