Better not invite Dexter Manley
I think he knew it was raining and conditions were rip for a turnover, and remembering what happened in the Rams game, I think he didn't want to make a mistake. That taking a knee after catching the ball was totally void of aggression. He just didn't want to be tackled.
The mistake was taking a taking a knee. Why not just fair catch the ball?I think he knew it was raining and conditions were rip for a turnover, and remembering what happened in the Rams game, I think he didn't want to make a mistake.

I'm not suggesting fair catching the ball as the correct course of action. If he was just going to take a knee he should have just let the ball go and take the touch back?He caught it at the 7 yard line. Fair catch would of put us in worse field position.
That was a kickoff. If he let that ball (which was a pooch kick - hung in the air) hit the ground it would have been live and easily recovered by the skins.I'm not suggesting fair catching the ball as the correct course of action. That taking a knee was on the kickoff, not a punt, and I'm not sure it was a bad thing. That taking a knee after catching the ball was totally void of aggression. He just didn't want to be tackled.
So catch it a run it as far as you can. Don't just give yourself up by taking a knee. That was a kickoff. If he let that ball (which was a pooch kick - hung in the air) hit the ground it would have been live and easily recovered by the skins.
Coaches told him to get what he could and down it. He had no blocking because the hands team was out there for an onside kick.
