True Grit

I don't have an emotional attachment to the old film so agree with you. I've yet to see something from the Coens that wasn't extremely well done.

I can agree with that. I liked True Grit, but I don't have that big of an attachment to it, either. I just don't see the need to do so many re-makes and sequels. There is plenty of new material out there for film makers.

I guess things could be worse. It could be the Farelly brothers doing the film. Then you could guarantee it would be a comedy.

Or even worse it could be the Warchoski brothers. Then you could guarantee it would be crap.

Ya know, this is kinda how I thought you would take it.

Maybe a bot more mild than I thought but still....
You should see what I deleted so I didn't get banned. I hope it's a flop and they suffer.

This is like having Nick Cage play the part of Rocky Balboa.

or

Keanu Reeves playing the part of Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird.

Nobody can play Rocky except Sylvester Stallone, nobody can play Atticus Finch except Gregory Peck, and nobody can play Rooster Cogburn except John Wayne.

I guess the only good thing about this news is apparently someone is interested in making a Western.

Judas Freaking Priest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I find out where the Coen brothers are, will one of you bail me out of jail? I swear to you, Joel and Ethan would poop their own teeth if it were up to me.

Morons to the nth degree.

Jeff Bridges, you just became dead to me. You ignorant piece of crap.

I call that bold talk for a one-eyed fat man.

Such a classic line by the great Robert Duvall.

This thread ruined my day. I lost respect for 3 people in Hollywood I have always appreciated. Now, I think they all deserve castration with a dull instrument.

Perhaps an oboe.

Jeff Bridges definitely has the voice

but if he reprises that role of the professor or whatever in Iron Man

it's going to suck

Hollywood is wayyy too looney about remaking everything under the sun. That, combined with terrible sequels, really tends to pump up the number of 'round file' worthy films.

That said, it being the Coens, I am willing to actually see it before passing judgement. Not all remakes are terrible, just the ones done by the usual hacks and blowhards.

I'm a huge John Wayne fan, but this probably bothers me a bit less because 'True Grit' probably isn't even on my top 10 list for his movies. He got the Oscar, I think, because they realized they should have given it to him before and were worried that they might not get another chance. Certainly John Wayne made movies that were virtual remakes of his earlier stuff, and the Rio Bravo/Rio Lobo/El Dorado set areessentially the same film.
