For what, a handful of magic beans? The only one in the league that hasnt figured out draft picks are at a premium is little Danny.

a 3-4 team needing another ILB would look at making that trade. Carter played very well last year in the 3-4. I just don't think he fit this scheme.

I would package him with Claiborne. He would also fit better in a 3-4 man scheme. A 3-4 team would trade a early pick for two young players that played well in man cover 3-4. Saints, Colt, Browns, Chargers are all 3-4 teams that have a need a CB and ILB.

Bruce Carter was a knee injury during his senior year at North Carolina away from being a Top 20 pick in the draft. He played WLB in a 4-3. This scheme was made for his talent. The problem is, he's a dog.

Wait a minute. On second thought, calling him a dog is an insult to dogs. At least a dog would run hard after the ball.

over the last decade that UNC program has churned out several players with questionable effort. i dont know what's going on there but they are starting to develop a bad rep for this.

no this scheme is not set up for him now. In college he was fast and 20 pounds lighter. With the ACL tear and moving to ILB in a 3-4 he packed on pounds. He was a very good 3-4 ILB last year and I think 3-4 teams will look at him as a player out of position and if they could get a man cover CB in Claiborne with him they would jump all over it.

I think his performance last year was largely overstated. He was above average, and not much more.

He played at 238 pounds at UNC - he's not much bigger than that now. The problem is that his effort is that of a high schooler.

He has no value. Hope you can do something this training camp and hope he comes back bigger and badder than ever and hope this was his down year like Mike Jenkins had.

Here's the problem with Carter in regards to this scheme. He isn't supposed to be in coverage that long. The Front Four is supposed to generate pressure, they mostly did not. He is also supposed to have Safeties that can cover a lot of ground and provide over the top help, he did not. If teams could get one-on-one wheel deep routes against Sean Lee, Navarro Bowman, Patrick Willis, etc. they would get exposed as well.

Now Carter has to improve but he has a dinosaur DC who can't make in-game adjustments until Wednesday and a LB coach who mostly coached 3-4 LB's. I'm not ready to give up on him yet.

Also, Barry Church should probably be playing WLB in this scheme. He is not a coverage Safety.

Like anybody wants that lazy joke of a player.

Or wait.. are you talking about getting some new practice footballs for him or something?

I remember in the offseason people saying Carter was going to be awesomeness personified, Lee was one of the best LB in the NFL, our LB corps was one of the best in the NFL, etc. I wonder why people do that...

He's not a football player. At least not a full-time one. It sucks we ended up with this gump of a loser when we also liked guys like Kendrick, Wagner, and Bowman over the last few years. Somehow from all of those guys we end up with a half gimp who can't stay on the field and a passionless, effortless enigma. I guess that's our luck...*sigh*. He's got to go.
I could actually throw a few other names in that trade bucket too.

Get pressure on the QB with your front four.
Bruce Carter becomes an All-Pro

Holloman is going to run his spot anyway.. See if Rob Ryan still loves him and try to get a 2nd or 3rd from the Saints or something.. I don't have patience for guys who play with no heart or passion.. That would require a mass exodus from the roster but since Carter has value we can start there

People make me laugh. Anybody realise when Carters struggles come?

Maybe when he's supposed to be off the field? Dime Situations? Today they kept him off the field in those situations and look what happened? Team got stops. When Philly went to their nohuddle in the 2nd half he was stuck covering Desean Jackson of all people.

Broaddus speaks about this alot. Bruce Carter is one of the most athletic Lbers in the nfl. Key word is Lber. Lbers arent supposed to be covering WRs across the field. Dallas' inability to play Dime is the problem.

Call me crazy, but I still think we should try going back to the 3-4 and keeping Carter. I think Lee and Carter would make good ILBs. If not, someone can beat out Carter. We draft NT Nix from Notre Dame in the first. Ware takes a paycut. He looked better last year in the 3-4. We have the corners play man. We still need some 3-4 DEs, a FS (move Church to SS), and another 3-4 OLB.

I agree with this, but to even my untrained eye, I find Carter half stepping it most times. He just seems to lose interest and stands around and watches. He doesn't seem to have any fire to take all of that talent and push himself to be the best. This is the reason I would rather have a player with a high motor than an athlete.

In the one time it looked like he was dogging it. I know im not the only person who saw it but two blockers basically sandwiched him hard. He even grabbed his head like he got his bell rung.
