Imagine we could use it on players ( no cap ).
Not as convinced as I once was that the Joneses would do that. I still think they would stubbornly hold on to their philosophy that you don't get good value in free agency. They'd probably just hold on to more of their own.

This is essentially meaningless to anything that's relevant to us as fans.

You are right… they would still go cheap.

Gee, that's great.

Did you know that the NFL is still a tax-free entity because franchises weren't supposed to make any money?

The original intent was a collaboration between the owner of a successful business and the community in which they resided. It was a way of giving back to the community while promoting their business at the same time. It was for the purpose of public relations.

The community, represented by a city or county government, were considered equal partners, They provided infrastructure and helped finance a venue in support of the team.

This is why some of the original NFL names were like the Duluth Kelleys, named after Kelleys Hardware Store and the Chicago Staley's named after Staley's Furniture. The Packers name is actually short for Meatpackers.

Today you have owners whose names are recognizable like Hunt and Kraft

The only times the Cowboys have been sold was because the previous owners were losing money from their original business. It wasn't because the franchise, itself, was losing money.

Jerry Jones wasn't the first to consider the NFL a profitable venture to be sure. However, he is probably the one most responsible for the marketing explosion and corporate partnerships that brough billions into the NFL. For this, they rewarded Jerry with induction into the Hall of Fame. Their recent increase in wealth was Jerry Jones's contribution to the game of football.

Unfortunately, it also pushed out a large percentage of the population for whom the league was originally formed. The average citizen would find it difficult to bring his family to a game on a regular basis at an average price of around $125 per person a game, not including parking and other costs.

Yea, that may have been the PR spin ,however, in reality it was a 'pull up the drawbridge' moment, heavily sponsored by the 'market leader' which protected that position in: best roster and most profitable.......whilst ensuring the franchise provides a profitable investment.

What Jones did to 'even up' that advantage, was he failed to modernize and thought that (30 years later) he could retain the status quo and NEVER speculate on the future.

It's a market leader that's focusing on one aspect (income) to the detriment of the team.....not necessarily on money spent (that's governed by the CAP), but by this incessant belief that we have to be 'relevant on an annual basis' to maintain 'his profits'.

Time for another yacht. Not enough stretch room in the old one.

They need to raise the playoff and Super Bowl cash to owners, coaches and players exponentially and get some good old competition back in this league.

This is the part where Jerry pays the taxpayers back for helping fund the stadium.

Sike!! Actually, its close to the part where the taxpayers try to make sure Jerry gets another massive tax cut to pay him back for his greatness.

The NFL treats like the chumps we are. They continuously jack up the prices for any and all things related to the NFL knowing that we will still delivery the cash that the NFL is so addicted to. Need a new stadium? We'll give them that too.
