Well I just got done watching the 2 highlights of SB losses to the Steelers. I'd love to re-watch both those games from start to finish to really pick up a greater sense of momentum. But the ridiculous PI call on Barnes followed by the Randy White kickoff return fumble... grrrrrrrr!
And Pittsburgh gets to be all high and mighty coming off the field and into the HoF. Wow! :bang2:
Then to realize the chances we had to beat the Niners in 82 even despite the Catch. :bang2:
Now the self-destruction in 95 out in SF is painful but in reality that day wasn't a lightning strike. We had been fighting our own demons and the Niners all season to maintain NFC supremacy. As much as I loathe the non-PI on Deion I still think it was unlikely we win that game because it was in many ways a season and a game with just too many things stacked against us. Some by fate, some by injustice, and some of our own doing. It just wasn't to be.
Now would we have won that game, the SB, next years, and more had Jimmy stayed? Interesting discussion, but no sure thing. Recall there was a school of thought that the tight reign of Jimmy had worn thin on some.
I'm not sure the Irvin's, Harper's, Lett's, Erik, etc would have had the maturity to prevent the self-destruction even with Jimmy at the helm. And remember, even if Jimmy stays, there is THAT whole immaturity going on as well.
In some ways the collective immaturity of those young dominant 2 time SB champs was going to prematurely doom us no matter what.
