TV Sound to Stereo Speakers

My TV does not have very good volume AT ALL...sucks actually....and i bought a audio/video cord (the yellow,white,and red tips) and thought thats all i need for it to work and run thru my speakers on my stereo, but it doesnt work, does anyone know whats wrong and what i need to do to fix it?..

i know the thing works on my stereo because i just bought a cord to run my IPOD through my stereo and works perfectly...

Check your settings on the TV audio menu... many times you have to activate the line-out feature on your TV...

You also may want to take the audio feed directly out of your cable/satellite box. That way you have a direct audio feed from the source rather than routing it through your TV.

Also, make sure your red and white cables are connected to an audio OUTPUT on your TV and not accidentally connected to an audio INPUT. They look identical, you just have to read the small print to see which is which.

One more thing to consider, because sometimes it is the simplest things people miss...

Make sure your stereo is set to the Aux setting.

i dont have either a cable or satellite box, just moved into a new apartment and dont need cable, only need FOX, CBS, NBC....saves $40/month (college student)......then....i looked on the back and there is only the OUTPUT red,white,& yellow things, there is no INPUT, there are some on the front of the TV but ive tried those and they dont work either. :bang2: :bang2:

I won't presume to tell you what your television looks like, but I am going to make an assumption that I think is probably correct.

IF you only have one set of red/white/yellow plugs, those are probably INPUTS and not OUTPUTS. Usually a television has many more INPUTS than OUTPUTS so you can connect game systems, DVD players, VCRs, cable and satellite boxes, etc. In fact, many lower-end TVs have no OUTPUTS because there's really no necessity for them.

So my hunch is that you have no OUTPUTS and only INPUTS. However, if yours are specifically labled OUTPUT, then I'm wrong and you have a very strange TV.

In either case, it seems like you might be screwed here.

Maybe you can buy a cheap VCR or something like that and run your antenna through it, and then use its OUTPUT for your speakers. If you do that, though, make sure you buy a VCR that has multiple outputs as you'll need to connect it to your TV and your speakers.

Or you can just buy a new TV.

Thanks guys for all your help....

I made a mistake, they are labeled INPUTS....i have the S-Video Input, the Red/White/Yellow Input, and the 75 OHM Input, all in the back of the TV. And then i have the red/White/yellow things in the front of the TV also, not labeled, but those are for easy access for game systems and such like you said.

I kind of found a way around it, i use my portable DVD player and run that through the TV, which then plays sound from both the TV and the DVD Player, weird, but it works.......thanks a lot for all your help again!
