Two major flaws with Chip Kelly's offense

if this was going to work in the nfl someone would have done it by now.

They were the 3rd best offense last year according to DVOA.

And you say it kills the defense? Well they were 23rd last year....but the year before w/o Chip they were 26th. So no real evidence to support that claim either.

But yeah the system doesn't work!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, agree on both. Those defensive guys have to hate that scheme. Dont see it working long term at all

I find it sunny people look for reasons to down Kelly but one fact is undeniable, he took the Eagles to the playoffs in year one while our trainee has yet to do it after three 8-8 years with win or go home games to end the season.

Valid points but I still say the problem with it is the same exact problem every other gimmick offense has had in the NFL and that is that the best defensive minds in the game will eventually figure out how to stop it and everyone else will copy it.

Problem one: Pace

He kills his defense, if they don't score TDs their D is dead late.

Problem two: Redzone

With all the spread and gimmicks he does not have the field to do it successfully inside the twenty.
Statistically, this checks out. At least, for 2013.

Philly's defense was 10th in TD allowed for the first three quarters, but ranked 22nd in the 4th quarter.

In the red zone, their offense ranked 13th in TD percentage, which isn't bad, but not quite as good as their offensive rankings in points per drive (8th) or team passer rating (4th). They ranked 1st in big play percentage (plays of 20+ yards).

You would think they would fair better in the red zone with their offensive line. It's the strength of the team.

What was the defense ranked in close games which would be more important. If their offense was giving them a good lead....how many cosmetic tds did they give up in the 4th that didn't impact the game?

I dont think spreading the ball around and running a lot of plays is a gimmick.

Those are factually true but I don't like it. Not sure exactly why yet but something about it bothers me. One thing is a agree with @reddyuta that Foles is not the best QB. I do reserve the right to reverse course on that though. I think you gas your OL a tad although the others should be able to handle it.

This pretty hits home with a general fan's view that if one gets behind quite a bit against the Eagles, he's got a very long day in store...and the reverse as well.
