Actually we can go 11-5 and still not get in. Seattle goes 3-1 and win their division. Lions go 3-1 and get a wild card spot. Packers and an nfl south team win their division. Arizona goes 1-3 but gets in due to beating is in the regular season. I used the yahoo playoff simulator and it spit out this scenario. I hope it doesn't happen.

Yea, I didn't say we get in with 11 wins for sure. I was guessing who wins what realistically and 11 wins all but gets us in barring some really bad luck.

If Arizona goes 1-3 they'd be 10-6.

I prefer the scenarios where we beat the Eagles. If we can't beat them once out of two games, with the much better QB and this time with 10 days to plan when they have 7, then the gap between our two organizations is significant enough that the playoffs aren't going to matter much, anyway. We'll finish with a decent record, Garrett will get more time, and we'll be heading into the offseason in 3-5 weeks with an agenda of improving the defense and retaining our best young players. I really can't get behind that idea right now.

However, if we go up to PHI and beat the Eagles, then we've got a chance to start building something at just the right time of year for once. With another good team to test us right after that and a grudge match against an eliminated season rival to end the season. Those are the scenarios I want to see play out.

The scenario I want to see is us winning out, getting the #2 seed and then beating GB in Lambeau in the championship game--followed by a dismantling of the Steelers in the Super Bowl. I am still pissed we only beat them by 10 in the last Super Bowl meeting.

There we go. I can get behind that. :)

Obviously, the more wins, the better. I guess I'm just saying the scenarios that have us getting swept by the Eagles but still making the playoffs aren't all that exciting to me when it all boils down. The Eagles are a pretty good team, but they did just get their clocks absolutely cleaned a few weeks back, too. They're beatable.

Any Mark Sanchez led team is beatable, but the defense has to sniff the QB now and again.

Yep. Contain the run, put up some real points on offense, and then let Sanchez go toe-toe with Romo and Co. We came around on third downs there offensively after the third quarter. It'd be nice to see us do it for a full game next weekend.

As long as Mark Sanchez is the QB Philly is beatable, but the defense has to make him feel some pressure.

The key is getting into the 3rd quarter with a lead so they have to play with some game pressure. There is no way we will beat that team playing from behind.

You are correct, sir. Sorry about that. They actually could lose all their games. That is a pretty tough schedule. KC, Rams, Seattle, Niners.

If they lose vs KC, they will certainly be underdogs in the remaining games @StL vs.Sea and @SF. They are also a beat up team. Matthieau is out a few weeks and their RB is out.

We will need to win 2 out of the last 3 for a playoff berth. After looking over schedules and playing with the generator, we get in with 11 wins. If we end up at 10-6, I have only found one scenario where we would get in so far(that takes Arizona completely crashing).

Upcoming games:
Philly - I think we lose again, they have too much speed and tempo for our defense to contend with.

Indy - I love Luck but that team is beatable and I like us winning coming off of a loss in that situation. After this Sunday, their defense should have given up more points than us after 13 games. They do run the no-huddle too but not at Philly's pace.

Wash - No need to try and guess but I can't foresee Colt beating us twice, he sucks.

So, we need to take two of the next three games and I don't care who they are against, just win two. Even if we beat the Eagles, they own the tie-breaker and I don't see them dropping one to the Giants or Skins. We just need to take care of business.

The good news is that we control our own destiny again(assuming Philly loses) and seed #2 should happen if we run the table, hinging on the Cardinals collapse.

I don't know if we should go on the road or not but if we face the South, I will not complain :)

Well, off to play with the generator some more to see what other scenarios are out there...............
If there is no chance of beating the Eagles then what's the point of making the playoffs?

Could someone answer this?

Last night before the game and at halftime, they had the current playoff picture with Seattle and Dallas both at 8-4, yet Seattle in and Dallas out.
That was incorrect, right?

The 1st tie-breaker is head-to-head....right?

Didn't say there was "no" chance but all phases have to go right for 4 quarters. I think we have match-up problems against them but there is a possibility we can never see them in the playoffs. So, even if we lose but beat Indy, I would want to take my chances in the post-season and hope someone else knocks them out.

Was a 3-way tie at that point with Detroit and H2H isn't taken into consideration in that scenario. Well, it is taken but not applicable.

I know that San Fran still has to play @Seattle, Arizona, and San Diego. All three of those are tough. They could beat Arizona (which fits your Arizona "flaming out" scenario) and easily lose the other two. That would put them at 9-7, which would put us in with 10-6.
