HuH? I can't even believe this.

Adria Richards overheard a joke between two men sitting behind her during a crowded presentation.
Richards was offended and took a picture of the two men who were making jokes. She tweeted, "Not cool. Jokes about forking repo's in a sexual way and "big" dongles. Right behind me #pycon." She also attached a photo of the two people making the jokes.

SNIP

SendGrid said. "Effective immediately, SendGrid has terminated the employment of Adria Richards. While we generally are sensitive and confidential with respect to employee matters, the situation has taken on a public nature.

SNIP

A person who says he's the guy who was fired left a comment on Hacker News on the situation, saying:
As a result of the picture she took I was let go from my job today. Which sucks because I have 3 kids and I really liked that job.
She gave me no warning, she smiled while she snapped the pic and sealed my fate. Let this serve as a message to everyone, our actions and words, big or small, can have a serious impact.

I probably wouldn't believe it. If I could read it.

even with tons of people telling you to believe it, you still dont believe it. i think its time to open ones ears and start listening to all sides.

not only is it possible but its growing at a huge rate. and i dont mean that as an insult to you Monster, its just people are not really listening to whats being said no matter how many people try to prove it.

Oh I am not taking offense, I just cannot believe an off the cuff moment like this is that drastic.

"Dongles" and "forking"? Thankfully, 99.999% of the population probably has never even heard of these stupid words.

Sounds like the female who took the picture has some serious mental issues and is in need of some serious therapy as soon as possible. Maybe she forgot to take her meds. I pity her co-workers and, most of all, her boyfriend/girlfriend. Hopefully, she doesn't have any children or pets.

Glad she got fired too.

Hope he gave her a nice big middle finger and a good "Fork you".

This is why I wear headphones on those rare occasions I'm in the office. I don't see nothing. I don't hear nothing.

And if I happen to post something semi-work-related, it's never so detailed that either of us will get in trouble.

"Victims" don't enjoy their plight like she did.

Apparently she had other interpersonal problems before this and this might have been the last straw. Companies she applies to are going to know this - she may be between jobs for a long time. Then maybe she will figure being a difficult person is not worth it.

What's nonsense is the guy getting fired because it's only her word against his. She has no proof what was said and perhaps she misheard what he was saying.
