This thread will get the flak it both deserves and not deserve, but it is a topic I have spoken on for much of my adult life. There should be an official NFL statistic that tracks tipped interceptions.
I put 100% blame on a quarterback who cannot place the ball within a receiver's catch radius, and the defender can haul it in. Quarterbacks are responsible for those mistakes.
The same goes for passes that a receiver can only get their fingertips on and the ball slips through. The palms of your hands practically dictate stopping and grasping a thrown football. Even one-handed catches involve the receiver cupping their fingers to funnel the ball into their palm.
Balls ricocheting off hands? 100% on the receiver. Balls getting into the body and bouncing off chest, helmet, thighs, etc.? Ditto. That's completely the receiver not doing their job. Heck. It is the receiver's job to not allow a defender to pin one of their arms in order to catch a pass.
Just my take. I think it is fair criticizing a quarterback for interceptions. Criticizing the quarterback after he has done his job getting the ball to his receiver and not the defense? No. That is neither fair nor logical. May as well ask the quarterback to run where his receiver is and hand it to him on a silver platter. That's ridiculous. It's football. Make receivers do what they are paid to do and not give them excuses.
