I am going to be labeled a homer for saying this but I think that Crawford's ceiling, not current ability, is Chris Doleman who was developed under Marinelli in Minnesota during the 1980s. He was slow to develop in his first two years and then came out his third year.

The combination of speed and power is there; the skills using his hands and fluidity, bend and body control are not all in unison. However if he can put it all together then that is the type of player that I see. Quick, strong and size with the ability to move around from spot to spot. DE is a harder position to play unless you have truly elite quickness like a Barr or Mack and I expect that he will get better there as time goes by; it might not be this year.

Marinelli likes to move his guys around and I could see him down the line using Crawford like Doleman in moving around the line. I really do not buy the notion that he is exclusive to any position on the line.

I do love watching player development as it is the key to program success. We are doing well this year.

That would be good. Doleman's sack numbers:

1985 0.5
1986 3
1987 11
1988 8
1989 21
1990 11
1991 7
1992 14.5
1993 12.5
1994 7
1995 9
1996 11
1997 12
1998 15
1999 8
TOTAL 150.5

The future is now. He was the starting 3-tech against the Texans and had 43 snaps as compared to 21 for Melton.

Lets not forget that Melton missed a lot of practice and went into the game questionable with a hamstring....I don't think those snap #s will ever happen under normal circumstances

well, he wouldn't be on the edge, but I get your point....and, I have heard his name mentioned a lot in Commander games...(at least in the hi-lights)...

Yeah he was up there in age but the 43 was is. Fit. We wasted most of his career in that 34.

He's making plays out there and has been really disruptive. I'm glad to see him scratch the surface of his potential and is starting to live up to the preseason hype. Him and Melton should be a good 1-2 punch for us.

With the way Crawford is playing, Melton may not be here next year. You can't have that kind of salary in a part time/bench player. Crawford is going to be a star 3-Tech DT. He's getting better each game. Before he was just making splash plays. Now, he's dominating on a more consistent down-to-down occasion. He can get a DE next to him (Lawerence) with sack ability, it will single Crawford up on the OG solo. I don't think there's going to be an OG that can handle him 1-on-1 by years end.

That 1992 team was very good with Doleman and Randle. The Vikings have had some good teams in their franchise.

It's hard to imagine being more pleased with Crawford. Dude is 24 years old and this is his first real NFL season. He'll be our starting 3-tech for many years to come. Now we just have three other spots to fill.

Melton might not be here next year. His salary goes up to 9 million next year.. Hopefully we can draft a replacement..

Yeah if melton doesn't show up then we need to let him walj. Crawford and a draft pick can handle that 3 tech. We can find a rotational 3 tech in the mid rounds.

Also I would be fine with Melton co.ing back at a lower salary

I noticed Crawford was clearly our best 3T last week.
Not sure if that remains the case throughout the year as he isn't above the very best we've seen of Melton but as a young, cheap player Crawford looks really good.

I don't see Melton as being here next year.
Dallas has no reason to pick up the big money on his deal and if we are going to renegotiate he would just test the open market as he is a free agent unless we pick up the contract.
This was/is likely a year for him to recover and shake rust before hitting free agency again as a known commodity.

I expect DL to remain a focus of the draft for a while now. The rest of the team is actually starting to look NFL caliber everywhere so we can afford to add DL that rotate in.
At some point we need a DL that demands double teams if we want to elevate this defense beyond bend but don't break.

T Crawford was in the mix all night against the world champs. I saw him and Melton applying pressure to Wilson seemingly all night.

I am elated with Crawford's play. He plays with great effort and physicality. Me likey.

Crawford is our best dlinemen even better than Melton. Thats two games in a row that he's been giving the opponent fits. Lawrence will be that player Marinelli will be moving around. Lawrence was used that way in Boise st. and I think it will translate over to Marinelli's D. I think one day our top 3 or 4 players will be from Boise st.
