The Jets unbelievably appear to be prepared to use 16 on a player they probably don’t want on the field in 26 . They hope Geno Smith can cover the year and Simpson learns but this does nothing to make the Jets better now with no guarantee Simpson isn’t Zach Wilson .

It helps Dallas though . One more player taken in front of 20 the Cowboys had zero interest in . A Simpson pick is an example of a franchise stuck in dumb. You need help NOW .

My hope is that the dearth at QB causes some team to want to trade up in front of the Jets to grab Simpson. I'm looking at you, Pittsburgh.

You mean then the Jets draft after 20 . I get you . That move seems too bold for Pittsburgh meat & potatoes. Rodgers said he would tell them before the draft if he’s coming back . How nice of him

No. The Steelers would trade ahead of the Jets at 16, which would put our pick in play. Depends on how McCarthy sees Simpson. I mean, he got his success with a QB who wasn't taken in the top 10. I don't think he wants all his eggs in the Rodgers' basket even if he does come back.

You mean Pitt would trade up with someone other than the Jets ahead of 16 . Then the Jets at 16 would be forced back into reality to draft a position player that would help the team and Aaron Glenn keep his job. And possibly affect the Cowboys draft board . I got you . Yes right the Jets wouldn’t be the trade partner your right .

Rodgers at years end looked spent . Nothing left . Wait for the Golden jacket & Canton

Rodgers had a solid season, especially at 42. Pitt fans were happy with his efficiency. He could play another good season until they find their future QB, Simpson is not the answer.

Pitt could choose to wait a year, but I wouldn't feel comfortable if I were McCarthy relying on Rodgers. I guess it all depends on what they think of Simpson. I think the fact that he's considered the second-best QB in this class is going to elevate his stock, whether it should or not. The Steelers might not be the only team looking to jump the Jets.

He’s 6’1” . Just don’t see a big winner in the NFL

It doesn't help Dallas. We need him to be there at 20.

If you reach for need, and draft a bad player, you still have a need. Drafting bad players fixes nothing.

Dallas spent a 1st on Mazi because they needed a big, run stuffing NT. After they drafted him, guess what? They still needed a big, run stuffing NT.

I don't think Ty Simpson is Mazi bad, but he grades out as a backup or fringe starter at QB on the Sam Howell spectrum. The Jets are looking at him because they don't see Geno as the answer at QB, and they're probably right. But Simpson doesn't look like the answer either, so they're just setting themselves up to waste a first round pick and then try this again in 2027.

You can make a case that QB is such an important and expensive position, that positional value demands that you roll the dice on a guy. And that's true. Kirko Chainz is earning as much this season as Quinnen Williams is. I just don't even see Simpson as a late-career Kirko level player.

If you want to put a dollar value on Simpson's game, I think he projects as a $5M or $8M type of player. You'd probably value him similarly to a rotational DT or backup OL, maybe worth a late second or third round pick.

The Jets are betting that he's at that $20M bridge QB type level, and I think that's very optimistic. If they bet a mid-first on that, they're probably going to lose, but hey. It would help the Cowboys.

I am hoping a team like Arizona wants to jump ahead of the Steelers and give us picks at the top of rd 2 and 3 in return

All it takes is one team, though. San Fran believed in Trey Lance enough to trade three first-round picks and a third-round pick for him. They were betting on athleticism over proven production. Now, Simpson is a bit of the opposite, but teams may fall in love with what they believe he can do with a better offense based on the first half of the season. Teams get desperate when it comes to QBs.

I've seen a mock with us trading down to 24 with Cleveland so it can take Simpson ahead of Pittsburgh. Maybe one of those two would be willing to pay a mint for 12 to jump the Jets. However, 20 seems more reasonable as far as his value goes.

At 16 with the Jets he won’t last until 20.

If Cleveland could give Dallas back it’s 2 it lost to Jets in the Williams trade and we get a second # 1 as well that’s a trade I would make. Dallas gives up 12 round one to get 24 round one and 39 round 2 . So Dallas would have three of the top picks by # 39 , 20, 24 39 and Cleveland gets the QB

I don't suppose anybody would buy into Jerry's announcement that they intend to use the #12 pick to groom "the next great Cowboys Quarterback".......unless the Jets were interested in a trade.

I still think that thee is going to be some excitement around the area of the Cowboys #20 pick. Either a blue chipper will slide down to that area or a 3rd quarterback candidate will emerge.

Doesn't it always seem like one or two quarterbacks begin to climb into the 1st round around a week before the draft?

I think some teams start to get real nervous if they have a QB they love and they have been keeping it secret. What if they are not as secretive as they thought? What if another team knows and intends to take him right in front of their faces?

That's how you end up with the Paxton Lynchs and Brady Quinns.
