Tyler Booker received RG1 reps in practice

Brock Hoffman said he called rookie Tyler Booker right after the draft and congratulated him to becoming a Dallas Cowboy, but Hoffman also said he wasn't going to simply step aside and just give his starting Right Guard spot away. Looks like Brock Hoffman is pissed now and is going to be practicing with a major agenda after seeing rookie Tyler Booker being given the starting Right Guard snaps in OTAs.
Good for him I like a good face on

Brock Hoffman played well at Right Guard. Scored a PFF score of 66.3 overall (68.9 run block 39th/136, 62.1 pass block 69th/136), 44th out of 136 Guards and in the top 32% overall of all Guards. Not bad for his first year starting where he only got to start half the season due to Zach Martin starting the first half before getting injured. Not bad for an undrafted player who started for the first time for only half a season. Let's hope our 12th overall rookie Right Guard (Tyler Booker) scores a much higher PFF overall score of 66.3, or else, it will prove the Cowboys made a mistake benching Brock Hoffman after a very good first half a year starting.
Booker will be way better than 44th Out of 136 guards. You could book it

Hoffman said the same thing when Beebe was drafted to play center.

Thank goodness I hate when we put our first round pick at #player on the depth chart during practices! Let them get out there right away!!

Well when you win the position during draft day, what is the point of playing charades?

Drafting a RT with 18 games experience to play LT day 1, is almost as dumb as drafting a 340 run stuffing DT, and asking him to lose 40 pounds to become a pass rusher.

This is what happens when you do not participate in FA and having glaring holes on your roster. You end up reaching out of desperation.

Let's hope so. Tyler Booker is good at straight blocking if he gets his big hands on you and iron grips you. But if you ask him to move side-to-side often...or pull much, that's when the problems may start. He also bench pressed 225 pounds only 21 times at the Combine. That is very weak for any Olineman coming out of college. That's not taking into effect his extremely slow 40 time of 5.38 seconds, the slowest time among all Olinemen at the Combine, and his 10 yard split of 1.96 seconds was also the slowest. Best not ignore these results or expect them to suddenly get drastically improved in a matter of months.

I'm willing to be wrong

Now if they ask him to pull on every run play, or pull and roll out with Dak, then we just have dumb coaching.

Yeah, good post.
I previously brought up comments from head of OurLads scouting David Syvertsen post combine concerning Booker's total combine failure workout. I directed it to Thunderpimp but he never responded.

I thought with that limited skillset doesn't that totally limit the run game play selection to that side as well?
Food for thought.

Cowboys!

Tyler Booker can be made stronger, quicker and faster, but it's going to take time (months as in at least up to a year or longer) to get stronger, quicker and faster. Keeping fingers crossed because he certainly has the size, demeanor, willingness, nastiness and ability to become very good. Got to train him right slowly.

Just read this on The 33rd Team website. A little concerning.

There are two schools of thought on football players. One is that only the talent and what happens on the field matter, and the other incorporates historical data into projections.

Tyler Booker is one of the worst athletes to be drafted in the first round in decades, so hearing his name come off the board at 12th overall ahead of others was a defining moment of Thursday. Dallas was justified in taking a blocker, but Booker is a highly specific fit.

Booker's pass protection effectiveness at Alabama was impressive, giving up only two sacks in 1,035 career pass blocking snaps. However, for as powerful as he is, his inability to react quickly and move defenders consistently in the run game would mean a scheme change at any point in Dallas would render him useless.

Athleticism matters in the NFL because it reveals a realistic floor and upside. Booker might be a good starter, but was that worth it for the 12th overall pick?

Please sticky this and apply a must read asterisk attachment to all the Booker is Zack Martin/Larry Allen fans here already sending him to Canton.

A well written article that concerns me on how the offense may be limited because of him.

Wow. I'm not surprised to see the pros at The 33rd Team website say this about Tyler Booker. It backs up what I've noticed as concerns. Well, only one way to find out, but yes, athleticism (or lack of it) definitely matters in the NFL when it comes to the Oline. The good thing is Brock Hoffman is a bit more athletical and just as aggressive, so good thing he will be ready to plug in just in case rookie Tyler Booker starts struggling.

The tape shows a better than adequate pulling guard. Trust the tape over the combine. You will see him pulling and blowing up defenders and forget all those combine numbers. The game ain’t played on a track.

I'm shocked. I just wish out of the 20 guards they signed that one of them could play RT.
Honestly, Booker has the agility to play T…along with the long arms. I would not be shocked to see him play there if Steele doesn’t come around.
