Tyler Eifert speculation

The two teams that just played in the Super Bowl, their tight ends led their team in recieving yards in the regular season.

They also wore uniforms, did the uniforms help? Was their offenses set up for TE's? Did they use teh TE's primary as WR's? Do they have traditional TE;s? They also had Good Qbs? Can only good Qbs win the super bowls? Whats your point? Many teams dont win on TE's alone.

Quincy Carter i believe. They had high hopes for him. As they do for Dak.

You TEs are not going to carry a big load. IN fact, if this is a problem but Safety isnt, than the fans really have problems. Our defenses can not get to the next level with bad safeties and we been proving that, and you want to be concerned with TEs? really?

So because I am talking about TEs here, in the context of a discussion about acquiring a TE, that means I am somehow ignoring other questions on the team?

Safety could be an issue. So could DT. Frankly, so could CB if the young guys don't develop. But I stand by my statement. If this season is disappointing, I think it's quite possible the front office's approach to fixing WR/TE and going with as many unknowns as they have could be the single biggest factor in a disappointing season.

You are convincingly proving my point will each post.......... you are bizarrely defensive of the TEs.

The point is, they seemed to be important to those two teams making it to the Super Bowl.

yes, to some teams that build around them. we have not done that, should we start and be copy cats? We have other issues to contend with.

what is the fascination with TEs all of a sudden? We had a HOF TE and that did nothing for us? What is going to be the difference from a HOF Te and one who catches the ball? seriously. I want an answer to this. We have the proof a hof TE will not get you to the SB. Do you guys want one just to spend the money? are you afraid of moving on that you need a high end TE that hasnt really done anything for a team either? Thats never been a position where you heard "hey Dan, you just won the SB, how TEs did you have to go through to get the right combintation" Trust me. TE isnt that important.

The problem was not Witten. The problem was that we didn't do as good a job at other positions as we did when we drafted Witten. Dallas has pretty much always had a Pro Bowl quality TE, going back to the 70s. I am not sure why you would say, "all of a sudden" here. That's who and what this team has been for years.

TE is not high priority, sorry if you think so. Also if you think TE would cover the other holes. Again, we dont need a high caliber TE for this system to work. Its like buying your 5th corvette.

The Cowboys are not talking to the Bengals about Eifert. These are fan driven rumors that get spread because they are ignorant of what the Cowboys are actually doing about the TE position since Witten retired, and so they think they know better and just make up stuff to talk about. The Cowboys have a plan and it does not currently include adding another veteran TE.

LOL. yea, its always been the Cowboys mantra. High end TEs. Nods. ok, lets roll with that one.

When one claims he's going to be a progress stopper to our unknowns, there's an implication in there that one is not much better than the guys we already have.

Not really, progress stopper because it would again delay our other TE's who will see limited action behind a guy who will get injured......not if.

Dallas needs to see what they have at TE and if they all turn out to not be the answer, then draft or sign a FA when the season ends.

These guys combined have no experience, lets give them a chance and see if someone emerges.

Plainly just said it better than i did.

This "system" was actually built around having a high caliber TE. Or were you asleep for the last 10-12 years?

The only thing one can cling to at this point is this notion of a Dak friendly offense that they have apparently created that none of us has seen.......... that maybe that offense is much different and won't require us getting high quality TE play. It seems like a stretch given the type of QB Prescott is would probably require good TE play, but I guess we don't know.

And the larger point, which you continually miss, is that it isn't just about TEs, it's the WRs too. We have taken a ton of risks at both TE and WR heading into this season. This is a team that is built around it's offense being good and efficient and coupling that with a defense that just needs to be competent. So yes, if this season falls apart, my guess is that it is because they simply didn't get the play out of the TEs and WRs that would make this offense very good and efficient................

Not really. Progress stopper has always been this player that people here claim is older and not much better than what we have, so there's no reason to acquire said player.

The reality is Eifert is easily better than any TE we have on the team. Yes, health is an issue. Further, it's not like if we had Eifert for one year (he's on a one year deal), that we would somehow stunt the development of Jarwin or Gathers. It's such a bizarre argument.

yes, clearly the goal was to have Witten carry the load, and all his back ups. That was JJ and JGs goal all along. They were just to inept to bring it to fruition.

ok, now the silly stuff aside.

yes we know the unknowns with the WRs. but as i stated multiple times, that is only the third problem with the offense. If the OL and running game does its part, the WRs an TEs will fall into place. OL, RBs, Dak WR, TE. TE isnt that big of an issue.

It's like you can't actually comprehend what people write.

You assume that everything will fall into place if the running game is fine. But what if it doesn't? It's an honest question. What if the WR and TEs don't fall into place? Why would that be? To me, if the WRs and TEs don't fall into place it will because they simply overrated the skill sets of these guys.

What's more likely to happen? The WRs and TEs play well or the running game is really good? Obviously the running game is the answer. Hence my point. If this offense scuffles and the team likely scuffles with it (since this team is built around it's offense being good and efficient)............ it will be because they overestimated the talent at WR and TE.

what has the last 20 years netted us? now you think the whole lynchpins are the TEs? seriously?

Actually, they're copy cats. Dallas has always had a good tight end, when they were winning Super Bowls.

If you refuse to actually read what people write, what's the point of discussing this any further?

Yes, I believe if this team has a subpar year in 2018, it will be because the offense wasn't good enough. And IMO, if the offense turns out to not be as good as we hoped, it will because we took too many risks in the passing department with the WR and TE corps we assembled.

If the offense scuffles, what do you think would be the most likely culprit? Elliott? The OL? Dak?
