Tyler Smith reminds me a lot of Chaz green. Holds the fort down for Tyron when he gets some help and chip blocks etc, but when he's on an island against a superior defensive player he gets exposed.

Pretty cool that Tyler can learn from Peters as well as Tyron.

Tyler seems very coachable and eager to learn. He WANTS to be great, and I think this organization was lacking in players with that attitude.

Have to wait until he gets paid. Most go in the tank after the big payday shows up.

Tyler Smith will be better for the education he got yesterday. Larry Allen only got better after getting thrown around by Reggie White his rookie year.

We can be more forgiving when we win. If we had lost, Smith's early struggles would be pointed at and many fans on here would be lamenting the decision to play him at tackle instead of guard. (They already do.) In reality, we should expect some growing pains from a rookie LT (one of the toughest positions to play as a rookie) and should feel good that he's played as well as he has. It's nice that he can have such a learning experience in a victory, if only so we can avoid the handwringing.

who has lamented it? it’s one of the more universally praised things on this board

There have been multiple posters who wanted him at left guard and said that he would suck at tackle. And some who believe he should be at guard even now. There are plenty of threads on that if you want to go back and look. There are a lot fewer now, though, but as usual with this forum, if he struggled, they would jump all over it.

You've missed out then, but I can't say you're missing much.

As he was thoroughly dominated by one of the greatest D-linemen to ever play the game in Aaron Donald giving up two sacks in the first half and being called for holding as well but I will say this he finished strong and he didn't get his name called in the second half which was a good sign but there isn't anyone in the league better to learn from in Donald and Smith won't see anyone of his caliber the rest of the season. This kid is playing solid and is only going to get better.
The penalty was on the same snap as one of the sacks.

That means he failed on 2 snaps of 55 snaps played.

That's not "thoroughly dominated".

One of those learning moments. Donald has done this to nearly everyone since he came into the league. Smith will be better for it in the long term. The kid's future is very bright.

Aaron Donald will one day sit in the defensive football pantheon containing the likes of Reggie White, Warren Sap, Bob Lily, and Lawrence Taylor. These players are not just great. They are transcendent.

One day very soon T. Smith will be the one giving out welcome to the league moments, but having the opportunity to play against one of the all time greats is invaluable experience and probably something Smith will look back on fondly at the end of his career one day.

Sometimes you just have to appreciate the giants of the sport for what they are.

It's still early but some of us had concerns about penalties. There's only 3 offensive linemen that have had more flags thrown against them. Still waiting and seeing but I'll admit he's done better than I thought he would.

Which was what I wanted to see.

I mentioned that in the game chat that I wanted to see how he responded to his butt whooping and he did so very well.
Exactly. When Chaz Green was getting beaten...he absolutely caved in and ended up having one of the worst games I've ever seen. And it wasn't against AD.

You're going to get beaten worse than Chaz Green for this comment. lol
Yes, if you left our rookie LT out there for four quarters one on one with AD, he would get beaten badly. The big differences were that Tyler never folded up like Green did. The second, and biggest difference, is that Tyler Smith was going up against arguably the best to ever play the position. Green went against some guy I can't even remember the name of.
