I think the opposite actually. I defended yesterday's play as clean and think this one might be a hold especially on a run up the middle. Once 97 did the swim move, Smith held on to his left shoulder pad too long. Still, Smith looked pretty stout up to that point. If he can work out his techniques, he looks good on limited film so far.

I really like the kid.
He has a great foundation to build upon.
I'm not going to be surprised if he has quite a few hiccups along the way this year and that's okay, but I think we are going to be loving this guy by Year 2 and 3.
The sky is the limit for him.

Holding is legal if it's inside and under the pads. You just can't pull him back towards you if he gets around you. Larry Allen pancaked many players,,,,was he holding?

I get what you're saying and I defer to your expertise.
I just wonder, like I said yesterday, how a ref might interpret things when not looking directly at what he's doing.
As you well know refs sometimes make judgement calls while in the heat of the moment and I can see some flags tossed undeservedly.

How many times had we seen Ware flagged for being offsides just because he was so elite at jumping the snap?
It happens and it's a legit thought.

I think Tyler is going to be elite, but there might be a bit of an undeserved bumpy road along the way while he's establishing himself to the league.

This used to be the standard in the NFL. I forget what year it was but the league tightened up on this not to long ago. I've seen some speculate they did it because Tyron was unbeatable if he got a grip on you. They call a lot now that used to go uncalled.

Can't tell if that is a hold. It looks good but without seeing where h is hands are it's hard to call a hold there. What it does show is that Tyler Smith has the strength not to get knocked backwards, like the guy who is not longer here. If Tyler can keep his hands inside and in front of his man he looks like he might be pretty good.

Refs screw up like we all do....it's part of the game. They get most right, but they miss many. Keeps it interesting.
