Tyler Smith should be the LT for the Next Decade

This was Tyron’s last chance. Put Tyler out there tomorrow at LT and never move him. He has yet to practice at the position, so what? That doesn’t automatically make Steele or whatever other reserve a better option. Tyler did it all through college, he knows the position and is best equipped to take over there. You took a LT in the first round, time to get your money’s worth.

When Tyron comes back he will be the pro bowl RT. You pay him too much to be a guard, and if he objects, you tell him he’s too big of a risk to stake the season on him every year. Tyler should be prepped as soon as possible to be Dak’s blindside. If the Bucs game doesn’t go well, so what? This isn’t just for this year. Like Steele would have done better anyway.

Thanks captain obvious. None of us knew that one. Good info there.

IMO, I think they’ll get a vet off the street to play LT and leave Tyler Smith at LG. That’s what I hope they do.

Or they could go out and get a legitimate guard. But we know thats not happening either.

I know he may not like it but Zack needs to be moved to left tackle. McGovern is a better right guard then left guard while Smith can develop as the left guard.

Its the obvious move, but wont happen. McGovern sucks wherever he plays.

25 years ago that would have had a different ring to it. But since then? Yeah an Eagles fan can tell you what a well built Oline looks like.

I mean sure, I guess, but 5-6 years ago, Dallas fans knew what a well built OL looked like too.

Why don't we ever add OL depth in free agency? I know it's nice to build through the draft, but you don't hit a lot. We had some amazing draft hits (Martin, Tyron, Frederick), and some solid ones (Leary, Collins, Steele including UDFA). We've had some that still are question marks (both Tylers, McGovern). And we've had a lot of big misses. Why don't we complement our decent success at drafting OL with acquiring proven veterans? Maybe you have 5 solid OL, with 3 being draftees and 2 being free agents. Instead of the mess we're in with pretty much 4 question marks on the OL (everyone except Martin).

I agree, he played Tackle in college and even took reps in the OTA's, throw him in the fire and let him get better with more experience. By season's end, we can all forget about relying on Tyron anymore.

Theoretically. I would expect a whole lotta growing pains to start.

Tyron is 31 and under contract. Unless he is retired by next year he will be back
. Damn we are a shell of what we used to be on the O line.

I think IF/WHEN Tyron comes back he should go back to LT. He has earned that position for the Cowboys. But I would put him on IR now and end his season. There is no point in him coming back in late December. First of all, this is an injury that you do not rush back from. Not only will he need to make sure the muscle attaches to the bone properly, but once it does he will need to rebuilt his strength and stamina in that muscle or he will just injure it again. The Cowboys play the Eagle December 24 which will be about 4 months. Then they play the Titans on a Thursday night game. Unless his recovery goes perfectly there is no chance he will be ready for these two games. So why then bring him back for just the last game against Washington? I would just pull the plug on his season right now.

But let's assume I am wrong, don't we need to see how this season goes first? What if Steele has an exceptionally good season at RT? What if Tyler Smith plays poorly? I think if either of these two plays poorly the Cowboys lasat 2 or 3 games won't matter anyway. Just IR Tyron. Let him heal completely and let's see what happens in 2023.

I don’t think anyone had Tyler Smith as an NFL level LT going into the draft. It’s going to be rough.
