Tyler Smith so far

average in pass protection which is a win for a rookie LT, above average run blocker. future all pro.

What are your thoughts on this young man. He's had a few bad things happen, but not to the magnitude these draft experts thought he would. To me, I see a bright bright future in him. He's strong, nasty, and he works hard. I'm pleasantly surprised at how much he's growing throughout the season.

LT is his now. It's much easier to find a G than LT in the next draft. I didn't like the pick but now I love it. Typical fan.:D

/He's been good...for a rookie. Great pick and his potential...sky's the limit. I expect to have our LT of the future for the next 10 years....

But to put things in perspective....they had him playing some guard today. They seem to be prepping for a Tyron Smith return and moving him to guard.

When is Tyron supposed to be back....anyone hear? I'm hoping by week 14ish. Also, they should extend Steele this week or asap. Guy's a stud.

Linemen take a while to get going. Andrew Thomas was a 2x All-American who came into the NFL with about as clean of a projection as possible, and he didn't reach his potential until year 3.

Tyler Smith is a pretty league average tackle now, but league average is a big win for how raw he was coming in. IMO, he has shown enough to remain as the starting left tackle into next season and continue to develop. After 2-3 seasons, we will know what we have with him.

League average as a rookie is no small accomplishment. We honestly, got spoiled with Zack and, to a lesser extent, Fred coming in ready to go.

I'm really loving how he has become stuck to Peters. And how much Peters digs mentoring him. That's huge and not something that Tyron was really into

He looks like a solid potential RT once Tyron gets back into form. Hopefully we can jettison Steele ASAP and plug Tyler Smith there...

Tolbert got a solid catch in garbage time today from Rush. I believe it was the first of his career.

I am not sure I am moving him. He's settling in nicely as a rookie. Why keep moving him?

The way Tyler Smith pulls really reminds me of Larry allen. He took out three players on a pull earlier in the season. I think he has been outstanding. It looks like we have found our new left tackle. I wish we could play him at guard though. I wish we had someone behind him who could play left tackle instead but we all know we don't. It's getting to the point where Tyron Smith can't even practice without getting hurt. What's next, putting his shoulder pads on? This needs to be his last season for our sake and his. There's no use in destroying a body you have to use for the next 30 or 40 years.

He had 1 catch vs the Giants.

for a rookie from a program that is NOT the top of the line; and practiced all pre season at guard; very good. Pass blocking takes time to learn; and he is raw
what REALLY impressed me is how he has NOT been a penalty machine as he was in college

He’s played well. He’s raw, he’s 21… he’s playing LT , practiced mostly at LG all summer.. he’s got a bright future. Steele man he’s freaking awesome as a run blocker man. He’s really improved too
He's been outstanding.

I don't even hear about pressure coming from the left side. He is amazing good already.
For a rookie:
  • 10/10 in the run game
  • 6/10 in the pass game
Overall a fantastic pick considering he's a late 1st, playing LT with position flex, and he was a relatively raw prospect.
The future of our line looks bright if he remains healthy. The question is if he is an serviceable left tackle that could be an All-Pro Guard or could he develop into good left tackle.
We hit the jackpot
Most people laughed when I posted about him a week before the draft...

He's a UDFA right tackle. Not in the sense Collins was, a 1st round grade talent that fell because he got framed for murder right before the draft. Steele at best had a 7th round grade by some teams and most teams had him graded as an undrafted talent and thus not an NFL player.

Steele is a JAG. Glad we got him for less than we spent on Chaz Green, though. We definitely need major upgrades at LG, C, and RT though... C is an especially big problem as well. Our incumbent C is too small.

He has been very good. Give him a full offseason and I expect him to be great next year. He's a real gem.

You can't be serious. You're literally ready to jettison him because he wasn't drafted? He's come in and become a man among boys in run blocking. His pass blocking is growing by leaps and bounds. Maybe I'm wrong, but at this point in his career, I couldn't care less what Steele's draft grade was. It's no longer relevant.

I’m only interested in how he dies at guard:

Haven't heard too many whistles, putting team in bad situations, drive ending penalties on his behalf.

It almost seems we depend on him, the rookie. I bet his snap count is way high.

I'm sure he's had his days, but mostly good.

I hope he remembers all those opposing vets who made an "es" of him, in time he will return the favor and then some.

Actually he must be doing something good, his name doesn't come on the Nancy network around here.

Learn, practice hard, stay clean and healthy young man.
