Tyron Smith Can Be Useful

Sign him as an Assistant OL coach or something at a decent pay. If we need him to play, we can terminate his coaching contract and sign him to the vet minimum since he is getting his guaranteed coach payday no matter what.:laugh:

Have him help coach the OL up all year then sign him to active roster for last half of season so he will be healthy for the final stretch.

Sign him to a friendly deal. He will be swing tackle, but most importantly, bring him in as a sixth lineman in short yardage downs.
I'd lov to have Tyron back and watch him work on his run blocking technique against Jerry Jones..............LOL!

I love Tyron Smith. He's been in the league a long time. Remember, he was 20 years old when the Cowboys drafted him. He's got a lot of mileage. I fully expect him to be inducted into the HOF. I agree with others in that he should retire.
Exactly. Alot of people quote how his age is technically still okay but like you said it's the mileage.

Tyron was drafted the same draft class as Demarco Murray, Andy Dalton, Randall Cobb, Jason Kelce, and Mark Ingram. That feels like an eternity ago when you word it like that.

I wouldn't mind him as a swing backup at this point, kind of like Peters became at the end of his road. I still think there's some value there. He just can't be relied on to be a starter at this point. If he's looking for that and big money to go along with that, then he should go ahead and retire.

He's a better backup tackle broken down than someone like Edoga is healthy.

Tyron only played 10 games last season so his availability is still a big issue.

$$$ is always a priority . Lewis said before leaving he wanted to win DLaw ran the Cowboys off the road with post signing comments . Neither of them are in line for a ring unless they purchase it themselves .
I never said that their respective teams could win a ring, although I give the Seahawks an outside chance. I said that they would take less money from a real contender if they had the opportunity.

Amy time the question comes up, a retired player's greatest regret is not winning a Super bowl if they had never done so. I never heard one say that their greatest regret was not making more money.

Only a tragic rash of injuries and immediate stop gap emergency role would really make me consider Tyron Smith

Even as a backup consideration, why belittle a sure fire future HOF'er to such a lesser role

Otherwise, aside from mass injuries, Flat and simple, we can't look back like that.

Yes, Tyron Smith can be useful.

But at his age, with all his past injuries, does HE want to go through the offseason program, training camp, and weekly practices just to stand on the sidelines most of the year?

I think Tyron would rather retire if he can't start somewhere. At this point in his career being a backup is just a waste of his talents- and time.
I agree and like I said above he really should retire,

but if he would take veteran minimum to just be on the team as a backup and maybe help some of our young guys like guyton ease his way in maybe take a contract that's all escalators like take 1.5M base, whatever the veteran minimum is for a guy with his tenure ,and then if he ends up playing more he could start making more money..

Q is ,I mean would he be better than Chuma, as good? So what we really need is a swing tackle what did edoga get on his contract where he went that would be something you would probably offer a guy like tyron but what is ego allow him to take less money and be a backup but that would be better for his body I mean Peters did it some think Peters might be a Hall of Famer....

Chuma Edoga signed a two-year, $7 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars in March 2025, including a $2 million signing bonus and $3.2 million guaranteed. so 1 yr 3mil or 2 years 3mil at 1.5M ..is Smith worth that as our swing?

As much as I agree with you this happens it's about ego it's about a player not feeling finished, you're trying to tell me you were comfortable watching Emmitt Smith play for the Cardinals, he was washed... He should've gone out a cowboy and just hung it up but he didn't..

you see what like Romo did he hung him up but he's not the only one guys have left here in other teams and they were considered Hall of Fame caliber and try to hang on to their career longer elsewhere. Biggest name I can think of is Jerry Rice it was weird seeing him in other uniforms and he was really good for a long time though but still he hung on way too long but it happens..

I mean when Tyron is healthy he is still better than what we had at T in 2024. Its not a crazy idea where he can give you depth and real competition at the Tackle position. It's also a spot where you could go into the season with an understanding that he is going to get some weeks off to help him stay healthy even if he were to win the starting job so you'll still get plenty of playing time for Steele, Guyton, and Tyron. Where I think it becomes extremely tough to do is how do you talk all offseason about changing the culture, and about being tough/physical then turn around and not only bring back guys from the past, but also give them built in time off. It kinda goes against the purpose of Schottenheimer coming in IMO.

Last year Tyron played well until he injured his neck week 11. That's a fluke injury not the chronic back issues that plagued him Dallas. If Jason Peters can be good until age 40, why not take a flyer on a 34 year old future HOFer? He certainly can't be worse than Guyton was last year..... who started only 11 games and ranked 116th out of 141 OT in the NFL.
