If I'm understanding this right, we can release him in 2020 with min impact on the cap......not saying we should do it but interesting nugget going forward

That's 2 years from now .............so

  • Cowboys LT Tyron Smith (questionable, knee) is a game-time decision for Week 16 against Seattle.
Smith missed practice all week with a knee sprain. The Cowboys' pass protection takes a major hit without him in the lineup, with Dak Prescott taking 12 sacks in the two games he missed earlier this season. Dallas plans to work out Smith in pre-game warmups before deciding on his status. Dec 22 - 7:02 PM

Interesting. Bad backs are a serious problem for big athletes.

He’s the best in the nfl arguably. We hit the jackpot. It was either watt or Tyron. Hard to argue about either. But his issues persist we better either help him significantly or hire new staff to help him lol he’s too good to let hi go

Tyron Smith signed a very team friendly contract. He has been one of the best OL his entire career. He has played through countless injuries. He is still at the top of his game. I don't believe he has missed many games in his career.

I can't believe anyone is talking about cutting him. Tyron Smith has been nothing but a class act his whole career. I am guessing Tyron Smith will call it a career when his body just can't take the punishment any longer. He isn't the type of player to just collect a pay check. He is the consummate professional. I am glad he is a Cowboy and look forward to as many years as he can give us fans. Yeah, eventually his time will come and I imagine he calls it quits while he is still at the top of his game like Staubach did.

Ring of Honor worthy.

Upgrade the training staff this is ridiculous.

If that doesn’t help real ease with an eye to resign to a more team friendly deal with his injury prblms fCtored into incentives like lee

When Jason Peters was the best LT in the game the Eagles took a chance with him and it worked out well for the most part. A healthy Tyron is the best LT in the game and I think we should take the same approach. The position is too valuable to leave in the hands of an average or below average player.
