Tyron Smith contract. Potential 2020 out

Upgrade the training staff this is ridiculous.

If that doesn’t help real ease with an eye to resign to a more team friendly deal with his injury prblms fCtored into incentives like lee
You should consider giving up alcohol.

The man is a beast. Arguably the best LT in the NFL. It's sad he is dealing with this back issue for a couple of years now. While many of us scream for him to have the surgery, it is not a guarantee, and it only puts him in a position if it is unsuccessful in the future. Alot to ask for with his team friendly contract. There is a reason this decision is his and his alone. I just hope it is the right one going forward.

Don't act like his health isn't concerning and he has missed time 2 years in a row.

Yeah but you seem to be overreacting suggesting we need an exit plan from a perennial Pro Bowl 27 year old LT because he's missed some time the last two seasons.

His back may in fact prematurely end his career but until it gets to that point he needs to be the LT on this team.

My plan at this point would be to get someone resembling a competent swing tackle through the draft, not looking to move on from Tyron Smith.

If I'm understanding this right, we can release him in 2020 with min impact on the cap......not saying we should do it but interesting nugget going forward

That's 2 years from now .............so

  • Cowboys LT Tyron Smith (questionable, knee) is a game-time decision for Week 16 against Seattle.
Smith missed practice all week with a knee sprain. The Cowboys' pass protection takes a major hit without him in the lineup, with Dak Prescott taking 12 sacks in the two games he missed earlier this season. Dallas plans to work out Smith in pre-game warmups before deciding on his status. Dec 22 - 7:02 PM

Dead money has no impact on when to cut a player....... it is the same either way

If a player isn't worth his salary you can cut him, keep him or re-do his deal but the dead money is still just cap savings from previous years

Fristly he signed a very team friendly deal, secondly his cap number in 2020 will be bargain for a guy at his position.

Tyron isn't going anywhere unless he himself decides he's had enough. And I don't see that for awhile.

Should the team get itself an insurance policy? Absolutely.

But Tyron is the man until he says otherwise.

We are talking about 2020. He would be 30 by then, pretty hard to assume his back is going to be in better shape.
