END QUARTER 2

Tyron Smith vs the run

Bruce Campbell...
Never played a full season in college. Either couldn't crack the starting lineup or suffered injuries that caused him to miss huge chunks of the season.

Despite coming out a year early as a junior, was 22 when he went to his first NFL training camp because he had to spend a year at Hargrove Millitary Academy out of high school to meet academic requirements to get into college.

Not only failed to make the All ACC team, but received zero first team votes.

Tyron Smith...
Started two full years in college at right tackle, earning a full time position as a true sophomore, after sitting behind a future NFL 2nd round draft pick as a true freshman.

Will be 20 years old when he attends his first NFL training camp.

Was not only named to his All Pac-10 first team, but was voted as the most outstanding offensive lineman in the conference by the Pac 10 coaches.

Randal Williams has the same frame as Julio Jones. What is the difference?

Geez, Jake Long had abs too its not a death sentence

well put

Give Tyron a break. The "kid" was 285 trying to move guys as big, if not bigger, than him off the line. He recently told Nick Eatman (dallas cowboys commentator) that he was poor while in school and only ate 1-2 meals per day, which contributed to his difficulty in gaining weight. He recently got with a nutritionist and is up to ~315, and he has room to get even bigger w/o it affecting his speed, quickness, or athleticism. Lets see how he plays with this extra weight, before we judge his run blocking to harshly.

no no no, Why should I draft a player at 9 and then judge him harshley. Its to late then.

What is the diffence between Tyron Smith and say a Bruce Campbell who was taken in the 4th last year.

The last few Drafts have had great prospects along the OLine, this year there is an obvious fall off.

Where would Tyron have been Drafted in 2009 and 2010?
Holy cow. You're only looking at their body compositions to form an opinion? The two players are not on the same stratosphere at all.

Great post but the very last part is slightly wrong. The Morris Trophy is not only for Offensive line. It is also Defensive line. So Tyron Smith was voted the best Lineman in the Pac-10. Offense and Defense.

its because he didn't win it for offense and defense. Smith won the offense morris trophy. Paea won the defense morris trophy.

Thats a load of , Russell Okung and Trent Williams are both better players. Now he might have went before Anthony Davis or took Davis spot at 11.

If Smith would have went 6 last year to Seattle it would have been only because of who the coach is.

Now with Davis going 11 who played RT last year and is projected to become a LT and thats how he was drafted then it's the same as Smith. I guess if SF could draft Davis a RT at 11 we could draft Smith a RT at 9. But I would much rather drop back a few spots, pick up an extra 3rd and still get Smith.

You can disagree but with Bunting here is the direct quote so to say that Wes Bunting didn't say that is false.....

No, and this is how funny the NFL is. You look back at Jason Smith from Baylor, who went 2nd overall. I thought he was the 4th best OT in that class. It's kind of, who has the first say, and which player has a consensus around his spot that determines where he goes.

I think Tyron Smith is twice the pro prospect that Jason Smith was. Last year I had Roger Saffold as my 3rd best. I know I had him over Anthony Davis and Bruce Campbell and Trent Williams, who went 4th overall. Who had the better year? Well, Saffold had a much better year than Trent Williams, but the press gets caught up in a handful of names, and those sexy names just kind of stick up there.

I don't know if Tyron Smith will rise up to a top-5 pick, but he's better than Jason Smith, in my opinion.

Tyron Smith better than Trent Williams and Jason Smith
