I have this feeling that the buzz on this kid is just going to get hotter and hotter as we move toward the draft
Mcshay had a glowing report on him in a recent draft blog touting him as the most athletic of the tackles available. Also noted his aggressiveness and extremely long arms together with outstanding footwork
Apparently Smith handled Cameron Jordan this year although I didnt see that game
given that Smith is probably coming out a year too soon....no doubt he would be a top 5-10 projected pick going into the 2011 season, the team chosing him may have to be patient and let him mature a bit but could have a blue chipper 2-3 years down the road
gotta say the rest of the tackles available this year dont do much to excite me in the first round when you compare to talent available in previous years
If the draft falls in such a way that the quarterbacks dont get picked in the top 10 allowing a defensive talent to drop to us, perhaps Smith is our best option and fits our largest need

He's got everything but size.

The question is do we want a 290 pound offensive tackle?

I heard he is barely 280 and tends to lose weight as the season goes. Like AL Johnson did. With his lean body type I do not see how he puts on the weight he will need to keep from being bull rushed or tossed around.

How ever I would be interested in having him drop 20 and become our Fullback.

At the 9th pick , I would like to see someone who would start as a rookie. He is one of the few linemen that I have seen that struggles to keep his weight up. He should make a good OT a couple years down the road , but the Cowboys need help in 2011.

D'Brickashaw Ferguson had the same problem, and has held up OK with the Jets.

Look at his frame though.

He is solid muscle at 290.. I don't see how he could get any bigger.

His frame could take much more weight - the guy looks like an NBA power forward.

Where exactly is he going to add this weight?

I do not think with his frame he could add too much more bulk without it affecting his quickness.

And Ferguson was 312 at the combine and has remained around that weight. In other words 20 + lbs heavier (ANd everything I have heard is that smith is a lot closer to 280 then 290).

come combine he will be around 300lbs but the question is can he keep it on:confused:

The same place as every other lineman, his gut. Come on guy, putting on weight with an NFL salary and dietitian is nothing.

Anthony Munoz, perhaps the best OT in NFL history, weighed 275 to 285 his entire career.

USC grad too, BTW.

And when did he play Hoss= what were the average size of those he played against? He played in the early 80's to 91. Just at the beginning when linemen started to get big.

You show me any good tackle in the NFL playing at under 300.

You seem pretty set he'll be no good considering he hasn't played a down of NFL ball yet.

Anybody else getting flashbacks of Jacob Rogers when looking at this kid? I can't recall if he was perenially light in the pants, or just a sissy.

Top 10 pick better be STARTER day 1. Leave the developments till round 3 and on.

The only thing that will make him Jacob Rogers is if he can't gain weight.

He is amazing at every other attribute. Perfect feet for a OL. But as of now I can't see him being able to do anything with an NFL player once he is locked on.

He'll be in perfect position though you can bet on that.

I think worst case scenario is he floats around the league as a blocking TE.

There is zero relation between Tyron Smith and Jacob Rodgers outside of them both playing at USC.

Rodgers had injury issues and questions regarding his desire to play football.
