Tyron Smith

I just suspect that there will be one guy that will move himself up into the conversation after the combine out of Nate Soldier and Tyron Smith. History has indicated that Dallas tends to value O-Linemen much lower than their projected value going into the draft, but there might be a shift in philosophy with the new coaching regime.

Anyone got a highlight reel of OT Smith from USC? I've never seen him play.

He's playing RT, I believe.

Top 10 pick better be STARTER day 1. Leave the developments till round 3 and on.

THIS.whoever we draft at 9 needs to start immediately from game 1.

Bottom line is that if he does not gain about 30 lbs, he is for all intents and purposes too light to be a QUALITY starting tackle in the NFL. As I said, find a good one that is less than 300. Matter of fact I think you have to go to around 310. And with his lean body type its questionable that he can gain that weight without losing his quickness and flexibility; and its been common talk around USC that he ends the year lighter than he starts it; keeping the weight he has now has been hard for him. And USC has one of the best weight programs around; this is not Podunk U here.

Really...source?

If he can play, he can play. Gain a few pounds and I probably wouldn't be opposed to him in trade down

Anybody who doesn't think that guy in the picture could gain 20 pounds of fat easily is craaaaaazy. If that guy is 290, he's 290 of pure lean mass, and all you have to do is force him to eat enough to gain some fat and suddenly he's just a strong 310 pound tackle.

The only thing that can keep somebody from putting on weight is a lack of desire to eat the calories necessary.

draft him and tell him to eat out a couple nights with leonard davis (if he is still on the team) or andre gurode.. He will be up to 315 by training camp:D

Fat is not good for quickness.

As regards sources its been a common topic on the USC boards and its been mentioned by his O Line coach.

he does not have one - I watched USC playin Hawaii last night - the kid is tough got to the second level - of course that maybe because he's way to SKINNY

I really don't want him i rather have

Derek Sherrod, Mississippi State 6-6 #305

Doug Free played well at ROT last year in Columbo's absence and with the top LOT still on the board, why not have the flexibility of 2 athletic young bookends that are interchangeable? Sure makes game-day decisions of whittling down 53 to 45 easier, in the case of deciding on back-up OL in the case of injuries. This is a case where value equals need and is a fine pick by Dallas.

Sherrod has the quickest feet and best natural athleticism of the top-tier tackles, and the Cowboys sorely need those characteristics up front

I'm sure he can put on fat around his midsection. I'm concerned about whether he can add any anchor and weight to his base. Big thighs, bubble butt, etc. That's Alex Barron's problem (among several). He's got freakishly long arms, which sounds good on paper, but he's so long and angular that he cant plant a foot in the ground and anchor.

There is not an inkling of doubt in my mind that a 20-year old kid with a 6'5" frame can add 15-20 lbs of good weight in the next couple of years. My gosh, the kid may not even be done growing yet.

D'Brickishaw Ferguson gained apx. 20 lbs prior to the combine (312 lb) and never looked back.

Good weight can be added to the bodies largest muscles which are found in the legs.

As far as him losing quickness or speed with added bulk, I think it will be negligible. He's probably the most athletic OT in the draft and any added wieght is not going to make him dramatically worse.

Again, I would be willing to bet Smith is closer to 300 lbs come the combine.

And the fact that he has not been able to keep weight on now?
And the fact that USC has one of the very best weight programs around?
Maybe he can add some weight; but as we found out with Al Johnson can he keep it on?
Boys need to look him over real close and have some trainers look as well and see if they can get weight on him that will help not hinder. But its going to take a while so he will not be helping us out anytime soon.

By the way UNO you should be the last one to ask for sources.

And as I said this is something the USC people have been talking about for a while.

I don't give a crxp if he shows up at the combine at 320 lbs and not lose any agility. I am NOT taking him at #9 for someone who hasn't PLAYED at that weight or showed he CAN maintain that wt. I WON'T take a developmental prospect at #9.

#9 player for us need to be a STARTER day #1.
1st round players should be ready to play or contribute CONSIDERABLY day #1.

Work out warriors.....3rd rounds and on.

Stepnoski was a very good center and was underweight.

Thanks for the video, Count. Smith didn't look small in that video vs. Cal. He can get to the 2nd level quickly. I'm sure he can pull and get out for a screen effectively.

I wouldn't want him in the 1st rd but I'd seriously consider him in the top of the 2nd.

The Cowboys need OL who can block on screens. No more Columbo and Davis.

How much did he weigh when he got to USC, 280?

From what I see he was 260 when he entered USC, they are unhappy with a guy gaining (at least) 20 lbs of muscle between the ages of 18 and 20?
