Tyron Smith

I thought it was pretty obvious that Smith got beat. I was actually surprsed it happened. Didn't happen again. I was more interested in Free stoning Orakpo for four quarters.

Smith was stellar most of that game.

He was beat cleanly for that sack.

If Romo's first read comes open, Kerrigan doesn't get his sack.

I will say Tyron has to do something - tackle the guy - once he gets a free run at your QB like that. You might be able to slow him down. The ref may not see it. :D Just don't get your QB killed.

Holy **** our incredible rookie right tackle gave up one sack.

Put in Rob Pettiti. Sheash.

Kids been a stud, the Skins' defense is a lot better than people give them credit for, especially their front 7. Re-watch all our offensive plays, they owned the line of scrimmage most of the day.

Had Tony not made play after play yesterday we would've lost.

I didn't think that at all. Kerrigan got around him pretty quickly on that play.

it was about 5 seconds before he made contact with Romo.

I wonder if he'll get a shot at LT next year? I really hope so he's gonna be a good one

Your clock is too fast or the more likely truth is you're pulling that number out of your ***.

The video is here for you to watch.

Adam stopwatched it from start of play to Romo being touched down at 3.5 seconds.

Tyron had his worst game from what I can tell and it was still good. I'm happy.

Now just fix the middle of the line.

But what is the time to when Romo first ducks?

As soon as Romo felt Kerrigan coming clean he effectively gives up on the play to protect his body.

If Kerrigan wasn't coming free so clean Romo may try to evade him or step up instead of going into body preservation mode.

I hand timed it with a stopwatch several times. Romo first started to react to Kerrigan and duck at the 3.1 second mark. I got Kerrigan touching him in about the same time Adam did, at about 3.5 seconds.

Tony has the ball at 2:12. Karrigan makes contact at 2:09 or so. More pressure up front then I remember but Tony is definitely drifting to his left and that gives Karrigan the perfect angle to make the play. Smith does lock up and push him wide. The breakdown was not really the fault of Smith IMO. This is what you are coached to do. The breakdown, IMO, was from the interior. The sack is on Smith but I don't think it was bad protection on his part. He did not dominate Karrigan but he did do a nice job, I thought of pushing him wide. His position is not bad if Tony is able to step up into the pocket. Smith has inside leverage and theoretically could have kept himself between Tony and Karrigan if Romo can step up into the pocket. Protection just broke down in the interior.

JMO

In watching it again, it didn't help that Kosier almost immediately got knocked flat on his butt. Costa and Holland held their ground pretty well.

Kerrigan made a nice move...got his right arm under Smith's right arm and just beat him. Romo had about 3 seconds to get off the pass, but no more.

I think this is a wise post. People don't want to see more linemen taken high in the draft, but take a look at what Romo and Murray can do with great linemen, they would be unstoppable with a DOMINANT line. If I'm Jerry, I look at my roster and know that I'm basically there. We can find another corner in FA, and a LB. We can get more defensive linemen from the third round on.

Go after the best GUARD in the 1st, and the best CENTER in the second, and watch this offense morph into a Super Bowl Dynasty.

See the Niners. They drafted two offensive linemen in the first round two years ago now look at that line.

By the time Smith is in his prime, he will be the top tackle in the league.

FYI, his prime is 5+ years away. He will probably be the best offensive lineman in the league before then.

He had more then 3 seconds but it doesn't matter. It's done now. I thought Smith played pretty well. He's learning everyday.

Romo was beginning his duck at 3.1 seconds. The stopwatch don't be lying.

Nit picking to the tenth of a second over our totally B.A. rookie giving up his lone sack of the game to a pretty good pass rusher.

Not winning.

You're right. Guesswork is always better, isn't it?

I dunno.

You have two young guards in Nagy and Arkin who both showed some promise.

I just can't see the Cowboys pulling the trigger in the 1st round for a guard.

Based on the generally sorry play of the DE's lately, I think a 3-4 DE is probably right up there as far as need... Not that I'm saying that drafting for need is a good idea. I just think DE, safety, OLB and maybe even corner could all be likely 1st round selections based on who gets signed, released or simply leaves the Cowboys via free agency.

I would love a good tall corner.

Whatever. I am not going to argue the point. I watched it also and timed it.

This is a no-brainer. He'll be a stud LT for the next decade. Free is better suited for RT.

Yeah, I can see 2 OL in like the first 3 picks, but thats the highest I would go with it. We have other needs, especially on D, at CB, S, OLB, and DE. That's pretty much every level of our D needing help, so the needs are there.
