Either I have not paid much attention during games, because I have not heard his name in a long time, but, does anyone know the last time he was called for a penalty?

Also, I can't recall much pressure on Romo from Tyron's side of the ball.

He gave up a sack yesterday but it was more on Romo or the receivers than him.

He had a nice battle going with Kerrigan. He did give up a sack but was pretty good outside of that.

Also have to give Free credit for doing a nice job on Orakpo.

All I know is he's going to be a stud, if he isn't already.

If I'm Jerry, I use my first two picks on the best OG and C available. Even may give up a 4th to move up in the 2nd to make sure we get our guy.

I think some of the holes defensively can be addressed with relatively cheap FA signings.

I didn't think that at all. Kerrigan got around him pretty quickly on that play.

We disagree then. Romo had quite a bit of time imo on that play.

I don't know about the first two picks, but I sure as hell would draft another OG with the first one, regardless. As everyone knows, those big uglies are one of the most important positions on a football team. Not a skill position like a QB, or a Corner, etc., but the oline helps the passing game and the running game.

It's been I don't know how long since the Cowboys used a first round pick on the oline like they did with Tyron. And Tyron is a beast already for a rookie!!

I think this is a wise post. People don't want to see more linemen taken high in the draft, but take a look at what Romo and Murray can do with great linemen, they would be unstoppable with a DOMINANT line. If I'm Jerry, I look at my roster and know that I'm basically there. We can find another corner in FA, and a LB. We can get more defensive linemen from the third round on.

Go after the best GUARD in the 1st, and the best CENTER in the second, and watch this offense morph into a Super Bowl Dynasty.

Smith has been what I thought - a solid rookie player who overall does a good job but has ocassional mistakes based on inexperience. I still expect him to be a true standout over time.

I agree with this, however, those picks are not pretty picks like people want!

Even the tallest building has a solid foundation, and the oline IS the foundation for a football team.

I really hope that Garrett/Jones continue to address this position with high picks.

You can have a crappy QB, but if the oline gives him enough time, he will burn you.

I hate when I hear every other position other than OL being called a "skill" position. Most players will agree that other than QB, C and RG are the two hardest positions to play in football. There are quite a few good WR's and RB's and TE's in the league, but only a few elite lineman. End Rant.

he's had a couple false start penalties that i can remember, but other than that i can't recall any other ones.....

he's really been all i've expected and more for his rookie season.

i wanted him all along in the draft and the only thing that slightly concerned me was could he maintain the added weight he had put on after playing at USC in the 280s i believe. and he's done that very well.

you can see some obvious technique issues that he has with his feet which he is already getting much better at if you watch him as the season has gone along.

one thing that has held true since we heard it said in training camp, if he can get his hands on you you're not going anywhere.

he's made mistakes, but all rookies make mistakes, he is already very good and i think we found a guy who will be among the elite before too long.

and it's been said so many times already this year, and it's still hard to believe that he's still so young.

Someone, I'm not sure who it was, compared him to Larry Allen.

I was like, hey hold on there!

Oh, no bro...I agree with you, but usually lineman are not called "skilled positions" even though they are.

;)

Yeah, that is VERY premature. I love the physical talents I see in Smith, but he has miles to go to reach Larry Allen Level.

When I watched that play, I thought that Smith did a good job on Kerrigan. He got his hands on him and road him wide all the way. The problem on that play, as I saw it, was that Tony was drifting in the pocket. When Tony dropped, he was drifting to his left and that allowed Kerrigan to catch him. Tony had plenty of room to step up in the pocket and avoid that sack but he didn't do it. He must have been waiting for somebody to clear cause he could have easily avoided that sack I thought. I honestly thought that Kerrigan's sack was more on Tony then it was on Smith. JMO.

In Week 6, he was called for a false start and holding.

If I remember that play, Romo waited a little to long to find someone. Maybe it was a coverage sack?

But, all in all, with the oline being so young, they have not done a bad job so far.

You are an Albuquerque Turkey...!
