I think you may be off a couple of seconds here but please post a video so we can all see.

Go watch it yourself - the video is on this board.

The Play starts around 2:12 left in the second quarter.

Smith was not cleanly beat if Romo stepped up instead of to the left he would have still been blocking Kerrigan.

Kerrigan was closing fast on Romo so Romo ducked to prevent a big hit. It was the best thing he could do in that situation. Protect your body, protect the ball and live to fight another day.

Kerrigan had a full head of steam and weighs around 275 pounds. He could have crushed Romo and ended our season on a play like that.

He'll have good games and some not so good games...

The fact of the matter is that he has been OUTSTANDING as a rookie... with no training camp to speak of...

He was the right pick for us and he's already paying off...

Barring injury, he will be a legend along with several other Cowboys OL's... excellent pick...

If Romo has stayed in the Pocket he would not have been hit, you make it sound like Romo was getting hit as he completed his drop which is just not true.

If I remember that play, Romo waited a little to long to find someone. Maybe it was a coverage sack?

But, all in all, with the oline being so young, they have not done a bad job so far.

You are an Albuquerque Turkey...!

Yep. I guess I am.

Romo did not leave the pocket.

You don't even know what play we're talking about.

Go watch the video, 2:12 left in the second quarter.

It's posted on this board every week by Hairic.

I watched it on NFL game pass myself.

The sack occurred about 3.5 seconds after the ball was snapped (I hand-timed it twice and got 3.49 seconds both times). That's pretty quick. Smith didn't get beat right off the snap -- those sacks usually take less than 3.0 seconds, but he did get beaten pretty handily.

Commanders rookie linebacker special K > spencer

I thought he was going to be a bust at OLB but his rentless motor and strength is impressive as a rookie. If spencer had his motor and will look out.

Tony has the ball at 2:12. Karrigan makes contact at 2:09 or so. More pressure up front then I remember but Tony is definitely drifting to his left and that gives Karrigan the perfect angle to make the play. Smith does lock up and push him wide. The breakdown was not really the fault of Smith IMO. This is what you are coached to do. The breakdown, IMO, was from the interior. The sack is on Smith but I don't think it was bad protection on his part. He did not dominate Karrigan but he did do a nice job, I thought of pushing him wide. His position is not bad if Tony is able to step up into the pocket. Smith has inside leverage and theoretically could have kept himself between Tony and Karrigan if Romo can step up into the pocket. Protection just broke down in the interior.

The question is not whether Smith got beat-he did!

The question is whether he got beat too badly as an OT for an inadvertent sack and that's not the case. If Kosier hadn't slipped, causing more pressure in the front of the pocket than necessary, then Romo like most QBs in this league would've just stepped up into the pocket to avoid the sack.

Nice post...he did/does go out wide. I like the way he blocks...and he has good hands. Once he's on you, he will block you.

All I know is that when the Cowboys went for it on fourth down ... they had Murray run right.

But what is the time to when Romo first ducks?

As soon as Romo felt Kerrigan coming clean he effectively gives up on the play to protect his body.

If Kerrigan wasn't coming free so clean Romo may try to evade him or step up instead of going into body preservation mode.

It's actually at about 2:09 when he starts to evade. At 2:08, he pretty much in the grasp.

I thought it was pretty obvious that Smith got beat. I was actually surprsed it happened. Didn't happen again. I was more interested in Free stoning Orakpo for four quarters.
