Have your opinions changed so far about this kid? Do you still see a perennial pro-bowler? Is he in a sophomore slump or will he turn out to be JAG.

Thoughts?

This should be in the fan zone, but my opinion of Tyron hasn't really changed at all. I still feel that he's a very good player right now with the potential to be great. He's playing a different position so obviously it was gonna take him awhile to play it effectively. I think when you look at it he's played better in recent weeks. I don't really think he's the issue with the offensive line. It's the other worthless scrubs. I still feel eventually probably within the next year or two he'll be the premier tackle in the game.

I like him alot because he's not your traditional offensive linemen. He's very athlete and pretty quick for a big guy. Most guys are fat sloths who can't move at all. That's why you see so many offensive lines struggling right now including ours. We like alot of teams just don't have any quick offensive linemen with the except of obviously Tyron. The game has changed. It's a passing game. Teams have to adjust.

No he was a RT in college.

As a true sophomore he started every game at RT and senior Charles Brown played LT, then as a true junior he stayed at RT and Matt Khalil played LT.

As far as my opinion of Tyron Smith, it hasn't changed. Right now he's still only 21 years old, which is younger than last April's number 3 pick Matt Khalil.

And also, O-line play is all about continuity and the truth is we don't have a single player in the same position as last year. Does this excuse the O-Line, of course not, but with sub par players at 3, if not 4 of the o-line spots and no familiarity, it's hard to reasonably expect more

I really don't believe it was. And Tyron was doing well at RT at USC, he could have moved to LT but Kalil just fit there and they felt good about that line. It was never any indication about Tyron Smith's talent.

At least we can tell he's not a bust so that's good. With high draft pick left/right tackles, you can pretty much tell if they suck from their rookie year. Now I dunno if he will be the next great LT, that might be too much of a reach right now. But at the minimum, he's a starter.

hard to say right now...not a wasted pick about all i can say. He was a pro-bowl RT from day one, he's not been very good at LT yet but I think he will at least get decent there if he doesn't get moved back to RT first.

No, I think he's a futur all pro with an outside chance to be a hall of famer. Currently he's our only OL player worthy of starting. All the others are backups at best on other teams.

Would like to see team obtain a LT in FA or the draft. Let them both compete for LT and then one plays LT the other RT. This would basically give us two LTS in case of an injury to the starting LT. Free would be the back-up swing tackle, at least until we can get out from under his contract. Might even look at Free at guard. Top ranked center, with guard play capabilities(Barrett Jones), and our Offense problems will be a long way toward being solved with only two players.

Yeah, I've seen him show far too much ability and potential for me to change my opinion.

I'm disappointed he's struggled but I still feel the sky is the ceiling with this kid.

I'd rather he not put on that much weight.

Maybe a few pounds but I think his athleticism is more important his size.

Get stronger, of course but not simply gain mass for the sake of it.
