All the obligatory love, HOF career, he's been a great Cowboy, yada, yada, yada...

Time to move on.
Should have done it this year already.
Finally cut the cord permanently.

Let's see how this year goes from a performance and more importantly health perspective before we make that decision, but as we sit here today, I think it's more likely than not that this is his final year as a Cowboy

I agree. But you know sentimental Dallas, rather get rid of a player a year too late rather than a year too early. Tyron Smith really affected the draft plans this year. I have no doubt if they had gotten rid of Tyron Smith that Dallas would most likely have drafted a starting Left Guard in the 2nd round. Our O-line would have received another shot of powerful youth, rather than go into the season praying Tyron Smith can stay healthy a full season.

No, they would not have because there was not one they liked for the scheme they are planning to run available. There was, however, a perfect scheme fit TE which they needed more available. They would have made the same decision.

Not sure about this.........first, unless he retired, Tyron was always going to be here until the end of his contract. He's a future HOFer, with a cheap contract, still playing at a high level. Of course, the problem is how many games you are getting but it appears this could finally be his last year. Just my guess, but it's highly likely Olinemen will be a top priority in the 2024 draft. We will need either a new LT or LG and since their preference of flex OLinemen, don't be surprised if they consider drafting LT and leaving making LG Tyler's home position.

It's kind of amazing that a player of his caliber had such a long contract and it will be played all the way through. No holdouts or demands for a raise. Dude signed a contract and honored it. Respect.
I do like Tyron Smith. But he's a Garrett RKG. Ultimate professional, stick to the robotic talking points and never go off-script, and toe the company line. I prefer big nasty O-linemen that put fear into you like Trent Williams.

A trade up in the 2nd round would have been in play for Steve Avila or Matt Bergeron. There's no certainty they would have just sat there at 2.58.

They should of moved on after his replacement was drafted.
Funny you say this ...........I know it's early ( way early ) but it appears 2024 will have a strong OT class. When Tyler is moved to back to his drafted position of LT, we will again be looking for a starting LG. Knowing how they value flex OLinemen, wonder if they consider drafting another LT 1st or 2nd round and making LG Tyler's perm position. I know this is way early and speculative, just a thought.

I know Tyler Smith is playing his hand right and saying the correct things (for now), but at some point Dallas has to cut the crap and be thankful for Tyler Smith and that he proved LT was a position he can hold down for the next 8-10 years. Dallas needs to quit trying to be cute with position flex and let Tyler Smith settle in at LT permanently. Dallas needs to quit catering to an aged, unreliable veteran like Tyron Smith. I'd be frustrated if I was Tyler Smith. I know, Tyler Smith is the young buck and can't say much right now, but if he's human, then he's frustrated his chain is getting yanked around.

We know that isn't correct. Countless interviews post-draft uncovered the Cowboys OL thinking going into the draft.

We know they had interest in Bergeron who also was a college tackle with the intention of kicking him inside, so it makes a ton of sense to think they could do the same in the future. Tackles are more athletic and usually have better footwork.

I think a large number of 'fans' need to see a recruiter to have a clue and appreciate that a soldier doesn't retire from the battlefield, until he is through fighting. He'll retire, himself, when he doesn't feel the rewards for all are worth his pain and sacrifices.

I leave that dignity and pride to the man,

When business decisions are respected by a team, that is usually at the end of a career. The player has to be a great player to warrant that status.
