This was on Ticket yesterday. Maybe a look into what the Jones Boys are thinking in this dead free agency year?

https://omny.fm/shows/the-ticket-top-10/the-invasion-tyron-smith-finally-speaks
  • Weren't a lot of teams lining up for Tyron's services. Best offers and team situations were Cowboys and Jets.
  • Tyron didn't know how to handle the spot he was in. Never been there. Felt like Cowboys were taking forever.
  • Tyron thought Jets had all the pieces together to go all the way. Very complimentary about Aaron Rodgers.
  • Tyron said way things were looking in Dallas, knew it was probably going to be Jets he went with.
  • Jones Boys wanted Tyron and were offering money and were fighting with Jets. They're not rebuilding, and eliminating all vets, they just won't spend past certain amount no matter what.
  • Ticket comments: With NO free agent movement yet, Ticket is wondering why Jones think they can draft almost all their picks as first year successful contributors, because it's what they need. Teams have to focus on role players too, not just the stars.
  • Ticket comments: Cowboys figured out how to load manage Tyron last year and he was healthy all year. Jets just offered a lot of incentives. Cowboys could have competed. Cowboys will not pay over a certain amount no matter what. Ticket wondering if it's because Cowboys been burned so much in past on overpays?
  • Ticket comments: This is weirdest offseason from Jones, no noise coming out at all. No surprise on not making splashes in FA, but just oddly silent. They are handing this half@$$ effort to McCarthy and Dak and telling them to win the Super Bowl or else. Ticket thinks Jones Boys realize they blew their window and opportunity last year but aren't acknowledging it.

Yea, some people on this site haven't realized yet the window of opportunity has pretty much been closed. You couldn't have asked for a better situation last season
We took our shot last year by trading for Cooks and Gilmore last March. The 2023 season couldn’t have worked out much better than it did having Philly collapse enabling the Cowboys to steal the NFC East and second seed. It led to a home playoff game against the 7th seeded team and we ended up laying a rotten egg. The arrows are all pointing down on the 2024 season.

And honestly those were poor moves by Dallas, Gilmore was 33 and while he did help in Diggs absence he's no longer a game changer, and Cooks was 30 and had a pretty bad season

They were solid moves if they were made in combination with other solid moves. They weren’t even close to enough. You could say the team even took a step back from where they were the year before. They don’t do nearly enough and the fact that some will point to these 2 moves on how well the offseason went is very telling on how inactive they are every year. More over value even for low level trades.

I disagree. Gilmore made some plays and really helped us overcome the loss of Diggs. He made some plays in coverage including batting a ball down to a wide open Washington receiver in week 18 that would have been a TD on the Commanders opening drive. He also had a couple of INTs last season. Although Cooks started off real slow he came on later in the season and finished with 8 TDs. Against the Giants he had 9 catches for 173 yards and a TD. He provided a speed threat that helped stretch the field.

He made the right decision. But, did the Jets? We will see how he holds up over there.

Pretty interesting, tells me they probably didn't want him back and played it slow on purpose hoping other teams would out price them for Tyron.

Gilmore did help, but not really a game changer, and Cooks had 46% of yardage come in two games against the Giants and Washington, he was pretty much a ghost the rest of the season. He had a total of 3 games (Detroit, Giants, and Washington) where he had 50 yards or more

Gilmore may not have been a game changer but he was a good acquisition that helped us. Cooks with his speed had to be accounted for and helped free up CeeDee. We would have had problems had we had to rely on Gallup and Tolbert.

This^

Yes we were happy that the FO filled positions of need with through free agency BUT when facing teams like the Niners, Chiefs and Ravens, these guys past their prime just don't make the grade.

Heck, we couldn't even beat the Bills, Dolphins and Packers let alone the elite teams.

We were never seriously in contention

Aside from the inability to run and stop the run, I guess. But really I think the window hasn't really been open since 2014. That was the season we could've gone all the way. #DezCaughtIt

Blew their opportunity? Thats what they’ve always done. This offseason might be the biggest joke in franchise history. Tyron is lucky to go anywhere else.. even the Jets with a 40 year old QB.
Watch Tyron Smith not miss any games this season. It's a big part of the curse of the Cowboys.

Well at least we're not doing anything to get better. Lol

I doubt it, sounds like they did want him, they just don’t want to pay for anyone other than the guys who sell jerseys.

And they kept the coach that had the team unprepared, unmotivated, undisciplined, and playing soft for that game…..
