Face it most boxers are not intelligent throughout it's is history it is those from down trodden back grounds who have become the greater fighters be it Italian, Irish, blacks or Hispanics most come from rough back grounds they have had to overcome. Not many Joe college types in the sport of boxing.

I agree that most come from poor backgrounds but I wouldn't say that most are 'unintelligent'.

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Don King took advantage of a ton of fighters, including Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes and Lennox Lewis to name a few.

There is a difference between having a 'low IQ' and 'being uneducated'. I don't know what Tyson's IQ is but he is definitely 'uneducated'.

I don't even think he finished Highschool and guys like that are a lot more vulnerable than those who are more educated.

He lacks education yes. Education = intellect. A lack of intellect = Ignorant. He also lacks common sense. Lack of common sense = stupid. Common sense is the ability to absorb Wisdom. (learn from life experience) Ignorant != Stupid. Tyson has proven time and time again that he is both Ignorant and Stupid. Look at his history, most of the time he hasn't made a "correct decision" and tends to make repeated bad ones of the same type. That is stupid.

Everyone is ignorant in some capacity. Be it programming, medicine, astrophysics, etc. Some just more than others.

Your level of Intelligence isn't the same as your level of Education.

I have no idea what Tyson's 'Intelligence Quotient' is.

Did not say all were unintelligent however many were not many were dropouts who if not for boxing would be fighting on the streets. Face it is one of the few sports were most guys do not come up through college. Baseball, basketball, football and hockey guys come up through the college ranks for the most part boxing they come from small gyms around the nation and normally those gyms tend to be in rough neighborhood.

You don't have to go to school to be Intelligent. I know several guys that don't have college educations that replaced people inept people who held Masters degrees in CS. That goes back to common sense. Thats why I said Ignorant != Stupid.

You can be very book smart, (all kinds of degrees) but not have enough common sense to apply that knowledge. I have seen several people with all kinds of paper fired due to incompetence.

That's because Universities act as a 'developmental' league for sports like Baseball, Football and Hockey. Also, those sports bring major bucks to Universities, something Boxing would not do.

Furthermore, I am not sure about Hockey and Baseball, but a lot of the Professional Football players didn't even graduate and some don't even go to class.

Heck, when I was at Texas Tech, it was revealed that Heisman Candidate Byron Hanspard's GPA was 0.0 :laugh2: .

Dexter Manley graduated Oklahoma State with a four year degree and was freaking illiterate! :laugh2:

True but you do see some in these other sports who do have professional careers outside of sports including doctors, lawyers and politicians. Boxing not the case. Boxing has always been a sport where guys are coming up in tough areas and if they were not boxing in a gym would be fighting out on the streets

I watched it a few weeks ago and I thought it was well done.

I think Cus was great for Mike Tyson, but I felt he should have exposed Mike to the business side a little more and not shelter him as much from the unseemly part of boxing. After Cus died, Mike just didn't have the tools to succeed and guys like Don King just abused him.

It was very interesting to see that he still fiercely denies raping Desiree Washington and that he never physically assaulted Robin Givens.

I'm not sure whether he was guilty of wife battery but I always had some doubt as to accusations that he raped Desiree Washington.

I read years ago that Desiree spoke to a few people about recanting her story on what happened but on advise of attorneys she didn't for fear of being prosecuted herself. I never believed he raped her.

As for Ali and Tyson comparison. Ali is easily the greatest boxer of all time. (due to his power on top of his immense boxing skills) Now, that doesn't mean Tyson couldn't have knocked him out. If Tyson got a hold of Ali (in his prime of course) Ali would have been in real trouble. Tyson just hit was to freaking hard and he was fast on top of it.

+1.

Ali was great, but Tyson was fierce. Fast, powerful and hard headed. When his head was in the game and not muddled with the trouble of his later years, I think he would have destroyed Ali.

I loved the movie. I already knew the story, but his descriptions and complete honesty on every aspect of his past were very entertaining.

Also, as to his dealings with being rough with women, he pretty much states his nature to want to dominate them. His nature is simply that of a very course person, which will always permeate his every aspect of being.

I hadn't heard that she thought about recanting her testimony but I agree with you, I always thought the accusation was somewhat 'shaky'.

What I found interesting is in the documentary 'Tyson', he said he was shocked that he lived this long.

I cannot believe that someone thinks Mike Tyson could 'destroy' Muhammad Ali.

Mike Tyson never faced the number of quality opponents Muhammad Ali did.

In their primes, Ali is simply the better boxer.

Ali may have technically a better boxer but sometimes finesse has no answer for brute force and a single-minded will. I think he would have been overwhelmed.

Foreman thought that as well. Big mistake.

Foreman certainly was not Mike Tyson. He was big and strong, but..., well you can look at both in some footage and there's a wide chasm between Foreman and Tyson.

Ali would have used that aggression against him and let him wear himself out. He would have ropa-doped him.
