La'el Collins isn't signing with anyone. He'll take the year off and go back into next year's draft.

Edit: Nevermind. Apparently the rules have changed. Should have just picked him instead of Gibson.

He can only do that if he was drafted. Going undrafted, he has to sign as an UDFA if he wants to play in the NFL. His draft eligibility is over.

No team would't jump on Collins as a UDFA so there's that. And no team drafted him for a reason. I don't know what it is, but 32 teams passed again and again for SOME reason. My guess is the guy is going to get a murder rap. Or at least an accessory to murder. People are drafting guys who will be bagging groceries in 6 months - Collins is screwed.

Then he would be an unrestricted FA next year. There's no legal way the NFL can say they own him and he doesn't have to sign with an NFL team. He can go to the CFL if he wants.

The NFL may rule one way but the courts will rule differently.

If he was drafted he could have re-entered next year after not signing. His agent screwed up by saying what they did. Although teams also must be afraid of having their franchise tied to him right now anyway.

Unless there is a loophole beyond guaranteeing his contract. He really can't recoup the money.
