Pretty solid show. THe two big fights went pretty much exactly as I expected.

I said from the moment the fight was announced that they gave Silva a fight with Forrest, after his last two, because they needed someone who would push forward and could get a highlight KO out of Silva. They got exactly what they wanted. Silva KOing someone in a highlight fashion.

However I'm sickened, despite being a fan of Forrest, by the way he acted after the loss. This is the second time he's acted like a little girl after a loss. In the Jardine fight he stuck around long enough to say "I fought like a *****" and then went running out of the place.

Last night was worse because he didn't even stick around to show any respect to Silva. That was pretty pathetic. He needs to cut that junk out.

BJ Penn did EXACTLY what I figured he'd do against Florian. He out classed him in pretty much every way possible. Florian is totally over-rated, IMO, and I figured Penn would demonstrate that. Loved the fact that he did. Great job by Penn.

The Amir stoppage seemed a bit premature to me but that happens on occasion.

I don't think Florian is over-rated. I just think what he is good at are the same things BJ is good at except 10 times better.

Florian is a top 3-5 155'r imo.

He's not better then Alvarez, Aoki and Hansen, at best he's #5

yes, though that looked more like a jab the the chin which is a little less shameful then getting KO'd by one to the eye

:laugh2:

Take a 4 ounce glove (boxing glove weighs twice as much with majority of padding around fist), worn by Anderson Silva and let him have a clean shot. This after you have already taken a pummeling where you were dropped twice and pounded from top position after you were dropped in one instance.

You give me those two instances and I'm taking the short jab from Ali.

I know the guy has talent, they all do or they wouldn't be professional MMA fighters. However I don't think he's nearly as good as he made out to be. I never thought, for one second, leading up to this fight that he was going to even give Penn a great fight. I certainly never believed he was going to beat Penn, as many did.

Penn went out and did exactly what I thought he would. He completely, totally, and utterly out classed him. It wasn't even close, IMO.

Florian is a great fighter, as all these guys are, but I can think of at least 3 or 4 guys, rather they're actually more talented or skilled or not, that I'd much rather see fight at 155 than Florian.

Penn, Sherk, Diego, Guida, Stevenson, and Danzig are all more entertaining, and fun to watch, fighters than Florian.

Of course Florian is no doubt better than Stevenson, Danzig, and probably Guida. I still don't care to see him nearly as much as any of those guys.

I'm hoping that now we'll see Penn vs. Diego for the 155 belt. Although Penn was so dominate in his last few 155 fights that I'm not sure even Diego will give him much of a run.

I'd rather take one from Silva, seriously a jab ain't supposed to KO people. It ain't Street fighter 2 you don't have a life bar, so getting knocked down twice is no excuse. He got KO'd by a jab he should be ashamed of him self

PHILADELPHIA – Hours after the most electrifying domination in a career filled with them, deep in a back hallway of the Wachovia Center, Anderson Silva was waiting for Dana White. Silva is the UFC’s middleweight (185-pound) champion but Saturday he boldly moved up 20 pounds and in a jaw-dropping exhibition, brutalized Forrest Griffin, who just nine months ago was the light heavyweight (205) title holder.

Silva knocked Griffin down twice, offered a hand to help him up once and then promptly floored him again for good at 3:23 of the first round of UFC 101. Most remarkably, he did it with a punch he threw while backpedaling.

It was a complete annihilation. Griffin failed to land a single punch and when he came to his senses, he sprung up and ran from the octagon, trying to push through a doctor’s examination.

“He might be in Georgia by now, he ran out and I haven’t seen him since,” White, the UFC president, joked.

That Silva could move up a weight class and not just win, but destroy with power, was a game-changing and perhaps UFC-altering moment. That’s what Silva and his manager, Ed Soares, wanted to discuss with White.

With his arm wrapped around White’s shoulder, Soares leaned in and delivered a proposition. “Spider” Silva would move permanently to light heavyweight, even if it meant the unorthodox move of giving up his middleweight belt.

“I can do that,” White smiled, a bit stunned at the offer. “I like that. We can do that.”

Soares smiled and shook White’s hand. Silva had been accosted by a fan by then and couldn’t hear White, but it was presumably the news he was seeking. The man has such outrageous confidence in his abilities he’s willing to potentially toss away a championship he’s owned for almost three years to take a challenge outside his comfort zone.

“I’d let him,” White said later, sitting in his quiet dressing room. “We’d put [the middleweight title] up for grabs.”

The hour was late and everyone’s excitement was still high. Perhaps plans and goals change by morning, so White didn’t know what to say officially. This was still just hurried talk. He knew this much though, as a promoter there are more blockbuster fights for Silva at 205 than 185, where he’s beaten everyone of note.

Silva’s next title defense was supposed to be against Dan Henderson, who Silva savagely choked out in March 2008.

“Who knows,” White said, wheels already spinning. “We’ll see what happens. In the talks I’ve had with Anderson, he wants to take on the best in the world. He’s the most talented fighter in the world, the best pound for pound fighter and it’s a joke to say anyone else is. And he wants to continue to prove [it].”

White thought for a moment.

“He would jump in that mix [at the top of the light heavyweight division],” White said. “You’ve got Rashad [Evans], you’ve got Rampage [Jackson], [Lyoto] Machida is the champion. And Tito [Ortiz] is in the mix now.”

If Silva did vacate the middleweight title to move up full time, the ironic thing is that he claims it wouldn’t be to pursue the light heavyweight belt. At least as long as it was held by Machida, a fellow Brazilian and training partner.

“Lyoto is my friend, he is my brother and there is no way that fight will ever happen,” Silva said.

White, coveting a clash between two men who are both unbeaten in UFC competition, brushes that talk aside.

“I’ll make it happen,” White said winking his eye. “It’s not even about money. It’s about proving you’re the best, it’s about securing your place in history. It’s about putting on a super fight that fans want to see.

“I’m all about making big fights that fans want to see.”

Saturday was one of those fights. Silva was motivated by criticism that his last two fights – both victories mind you ¬– were dull, so he gladly moved up to take on a dangerous Griffin, who was known for his attack dog style.

It was intriguing, at least until Silva started toying with Griffin. He knocked Griffin down at will, dared him to connect with a punch, challenged him to be as tough as his reputation and then finally just finished him.

Coming in there was a “Rocky” element to the fight, Griffin the heavy underdog with the Philly crowd firmly behind him and booing Silva. By the end, Griffin was gone and Silva was being cheered. It was the recognition of brilliance overcoming any easy Hollywood storylines.

“He wants to be involved in the biggest fights we can put together,” Soares said.

The fact Silva took this fight is a testament to that. The Brazilian is 25-4 overall and has won all 10 of his fights in the UFC. At age 34, he could’ve sat at middleweight and potentially won 10 more, making nice money with relatively little risk in a division he’s been untouchable in.

That isn’t him though. Not even close.

So not long after stunning the sport with a legendary performance, there he and his manager were, trying to force a back-hall huddle with the UFC kingmaker. Move Silva to light heavyweight for good, they suggested to White.

With nothing left to prove at middleweight, Anderson Silva now wants to lay waste to a whole new division of the UFC. He doesn’t need a belt to prove a thing.

If White's about making fights people want to see, he should have hauled in Fedor by any means neccesary.

If Silva says he won't fight Machida, I doubt it'll happen but I'd love to see him take on some of those fighters White mentioned, that's for sure.

You don't give up half you company for 1 fight, that was basically M-1s demands and that's why Fedor will never fight in the UFC.
I can just imagine how that would have worked out, Fedor signs has a few fights then retires and the UFC is stuck with M-1 who's still there cashing in on something they didn't lift a finger to build

From what I understand, they wanted to split the revenue from a Lesnar/Fedor fight 50/50, not get %50 rights to the UFC itself, but maybe I misunderstood.

I probably misunderstood it.
If that's all they wanted then it's on Dana IMO, i thought the reason for him not signing was the outrageous partnership demands. If it was only for the events he was inn then they don't seem that bad the long term gains for the UFC would far outweigh the costs of that kind of partnership.

They did everything he wanted besides allowing his nothing management company to become partners, and co-promoters of his UFC fights. If Dana White had given in on that then he'd have been an idiot.

Fedor and/or his management simply aren't interested in him fighting anyone in UFC. They just want all the money they can get their hands on.

Why would anyone, in their right mind, give his management team a 50/50 split of revenue from their shows? What exactly has M-1 and Fedor done to build the UFC company and brand? Exactly nothing. To hand them 50%, just because they have Fedor, would be stupid.

Thus why you keep seeing all these little promotions who go into business with them getting sucked dry and going belly up.

Never said it was a smart Business deal but after White went on record saying he'd make the fight happen and do what it took, it makes him look silly that the money was the issue when money is all it was ever about for him and he pretended it was for the fans.

There's no doubt it was about the money for Fedor, but was Dana in it for anything different?

In the end it would be two machine that UFC had little part in building going at it for the benefit of the UFC. Dana didn't create Brock anymore than he created Fedor.

The way I understood it is that the UFC would still handle North American promotion of the fight, but M1 would handle all international promotion of the fight.

Certainly not unreasonable as M1 would have more experience in this regard and more partnerships with countries Dana is still trying to get into.

From most reports and even Dana himself, Fedor took substantially less guaranteed money to fight for Strikeforce. To say it is all about money is simply untrue.

Technically speaking, the correct term is a fade, not a jab.

But you have never felt the difference in getting hit by an MMA glove versus a boxing glove if you would rather take a punch from Silva.

An MMA glove is built to deliver quick brutal punishment that results in so many flash KOs. A boxing glove is built to protect the hand of the fight and the face of the opponent. The way their glove is built it is almost to the point where a fighter can inflict so much punishment on a fighter it is ludicrous.

A life bar? ***. Forrest landed ONE strike on Anderson. One out of almost 40. He was knocked down twice, had numerous shots on him while he was on his back. The guy was getting beat down.

It's just crazy that someone questions Forrest and his heart after the fights this guy has put on. In fact, it's near insane.

I'm not questioning his heart as a fighter, I am questioning his heart against Silva cause that **** was embarrassing for him and he didn't even stay to face the music.

It's not about money for Fedor. It's not about the money just a Fedor fight would have drawn. They wanted to co-promote with UFC. Meaning they wanted to take in partnership and part of, probably half, the money from UFC events. Meaning they wanted money Fedor would draw and money that other fighters, they have nothing to do with, would draw.

Why on earth would Dana White, or anyone with a functional brain, do a deal like that? He did everything else there was to do in order to get Fedor in UFC for the fights the fans want to see but you can't, no matter how bad fans want to see Fedor, give away part of your gates to another company who has done absolutely nothing, and put absolutely nothing into the building of your company.

That would be like me, or any other dude walking up to Jerry Jones and saying..."Ok you can sign my client (Insert name of Superstar X here) for the money you're talking about but to do it you're going to have to give me, him, and our company 50% of all the revenue your team draws in from this point. Sound like a good deal to you Jerry?"

Only a fool would think that's a good idea and that it should be done.

Why did Bill Belichick walk off the field during the Super Bowl? Why did LeBron walk off the court against the Magic? Why did the Pistons walk off the court versus the Bulls?

People like to get caught up in this whole 'classiness' and honestly, it's a load of garbage. You get a load of testosterone flowing through those veins, have sacrificed the last 3 months of your life to sparring, lifting, conditioning, eating right .. basically putting your body through absolute hell to go in and under-perform to what you know you are capable of by getting your head treated like a basketball? I'd be ticked off to.

But hey, that's just me.
