Thanks Ms. McGregor.

It's conceivable to claim a guy that has this supposed tremendous ground game get taken out by a freakin' rear naked choke.

In all fairness, he only got choked out because he didn't want to get KTFO. He knew if he tried to keep it standing for another 30 seconds he was going to sleep, so he opted to become a panic wrestler and take his nap more gently.

All kidding aside I'm sure Conner's ground game is good, but probably not elite. It doesn't have to be as long as he knocks guys out. But if he wants to make a stop at 155 and he comes across a guy like Nurmagomedov he'll have a good chance to showcase his grappling.

For sure, it's all relative to what the average well-rounded fighter typically is working with. He's long been criticized by other fighters for being weak on the ground. Now, in fairness to him, like you said, he keeps it off the ground by knocking dudes out, but for those to try to say he's got some superior ground game, that's just not reality.

No offense but tremendous ground people get submitted.

It happens.

Now I don't believe Connor has tremendous ground game, nor has any one here made that claim that I've seen. It's just been pointed out that he has ground game it's just not his strong suit or playing to his greatest strengths.

When he fought Chad Mendez he was taken to the ground on a few occasions, ate some tough shots and elbows but was never in any serious danger of losing the fight and wound up getting out of those situations, getting back to his feet, and stopping Mendez with heavy kicks and punches. With a bad knee, if I recall correctly.

Connor is not going to be the greatest fighter on the planet on the ground, nor does he need to be. He's good enough on the ground to do some work, to avoid being stopped the majority of the time, and to get himself back into the positions that better favor him and his strengths.

No offense taken. I'm not sure we can agree on McGregor's ground game though.

Mendez took the fight on less than two weeks and folks don't seem to remember the details of the fight other than the result, Mendez was hurting McGregor on his feet and punishing him on the ground. In fact, McGregor was being hammered by Mendez in full guard and was only saved by the bell. Mendez had no stamina (understandably) and McGregor turned the tide, ultimately knocking him out.

McGregor's ground game is primarily defense. He doesn't submit opponents, rarely attempts takedowns or submissions. Of course, the counter response will be "yeah, cuz he's knocking dudes out," but that's not what's being debated. We're talking specifically about his all-around game, specifically his ground game which I don't believe is at the level some would like to believe.

Fair enough. I only made mention of the fight because I just happened to have watched it again a couple days ago and the reason I say he wasn't really getting hurt was he was slapping around on Mendez head and looking up at Herb and talking the whole time. He never seemed to be rattled or hurt in any way, from what I was watching.

Fair enough on Mendez taking it on short notice.

Also fair that McGregor was fighting on a messed up knee.

Yeah, and I don't want to make it sound like I'm taking anything away from McGregor. His stand-up is phenomenal and he's easily the most entertaining fighter in the sport; he gets me to fork up $50+ every time he fights, lol. I really wish the Aldo fight went a little longer because I think it would have been a classic between the two supreme strikers.

I bet 50 on McGregor so I'm happy he won.

But I gotta say I thought McGregor was going to win easily but in all reality you can say he lost the fight. I mean if they go one more round I think McGregor collapses. I think Diaz was on his last leg too, but McGregor seemed like he was 1 solid shot away from being out for the count. I don't know I gained more respect for Diaz if anything. Great fight nonetheless.

What kind of an idiotic comment is this? The list of BJJ black belts submitted by rear naked choke is endless. This is laughably wrong. It'd be like saying a CB sucks because he gave up a touchdown.

You've proven to me you are a waste of time. Have fun talking to yourself.

And you've proven to be nothing more than an ignorant McGregor fanboy.

Supposed "BJJ black belts" don't get taken down to the mat, mounted and then give up there back and neck the way Conor did with Diaz. There wasn't any semblance of a defense or counter; Diaz has owned Conor on the mat. Are you disputing that?

In this past defense McGregor wouldn't even dare to get on the mat with Diaz after knocking him down. Lol, this isn't even debatable.

Go put on your McGregor underoos and start your day.

Lol, CM Punk just got rear-naked choked in the same easy manner McGregor did. I don't want to hear about it.

Are you actually trying to compare Punk to McGregor or maybe just as bad are you trying to compare Gall to Diaz?

Because quite frankly both comparisons would be incredibly stupid.

Incredibly stupid is reading through the related conversation and oversimplifying it to just McGregor = CM Punk. That's not at all what I was saying. McGregor and Punk's inept ground game and defense of the rear-naked choke are what are similar. You expect it from a recent turned amateur (i.e. Punk) but not a vet in the fight game.

I get it; you think McGregor's ability as a striker somehow makes him a well-rounded fighter. Congrats on that.
