You know who else looks like a prodigy at 205?

Phil Davis

He's impressive for sure. Can't be compared to Jones though. Theres nobody like him. Dude is still 23.

I'm going to see him fight in Toronto. I want to see what he does against Hammil. Jones had the most dominating fight of his career against Hammil so that'll tell me alot about about Davis.

I went to BWW's.

Silva's front kick was pretty sweet.

Little slow prior to that but once he let it go, it was over.

The card was an odd one, the pace was incredibly uneven.

Glad Silva held it down though, I was nervous for him. Luckily for him, Vitor seemed to have come into the fight with the intention of forcing Anderson to commit first... well he got what he asked for.

Forrest's easy win was a bit of a surprise, I didn't even think the guy wanted to be a fighter anymore but he manhandled Franklin.

Of course I've been a fan of Jones forever, no one wanted to hear me when I said it'd be easy for him but I was surprised with how easily he tossed Bader around. His demeanor in the cage is terrifying, he wastes absolutely zero energy.

On a side note, I was happy to see Donald Cerrone choke the heck out of that fool after that sucker punch he landed to open the fight, I hate punks like that.

Now all we have to do is hope GSP continues to do his thing and crushes Shields, so we can see the Silva/GSP Super Fight of the Century.

Great kick once they decided to actually fight. Nothing for a minute and a half.

At the level those two are, you don't go rushing in. As fighters, they respect the hell out of each other. I came in fully expecting the start of the fight to be boring, wouldn't have been surprised if they circled each other for the entire first round.

I'll disagree with you on the "lucky" kick as well, there's nothing lucky when it comes to fighting. That's the beauty of the sport. Silva's kick was about as lucky as his submission over Chael, plenty of people were saying he pulled that submission out of his *** as well. I promise you the dude has spent more time practicing that very submission and that very kick than one could possibly imagine.

No offense, and you're entitled to your opinion, but I don't wait around to watch the main event for a guy who truly doesn't impress me. Are you waiting for him to lose his title?

Maybe he interests you but doesn't impress, that may be more accurate.
Perhaps you simply did not pay attention. I am NEW to this sport. I have only seen him fight 4 times. I had never seen the guy he fought.

All I heard about the sport was this guy. 4 times now he has bored the hell out of me. I hear the fans booing as they just dance around. It was a great kick. He is obviously a great fighter. I just have never seen anything that is impressive from him. He doesn't look like he wants to fight.

No, I'm not waiting for him him to lose. I'm waiting for him to impress me. I hear all about these great fights he has had. But the 4 I have seen were not great. Combined they wouldn't make a pimple on a great fight's butt.

I agree he's not flashy, but 68% striking accuracy is very impressive. If he swung more, he'd just lower his accuracy. He'd probably endear himself to the fans a little more but it'd do nothing to make him any better than he already is.

When Dana White was talking about the impending GSP/Silva fight last night, he said he thinks it should be held in Cowboys Stadium. I'm sure Jerry would be more than happy to take him up on that offer.

I thought this was next weekend, i was really looking forward to this and i missed it ugh

Saw the front kick this morning that was just sick

Jones vs Shogun announced? what happened to Evans vs Shogun?

Oh well Jones Shogun is going to be one hell of a fight, if there's one guy who can beat Shogun it's Jones Shogun coming of an injury again as well it took him years to come back last time. I think Jones takes it the guy just continues to impress making ever more tough opponents look like amateurs

It's called studying your opponent and knowing his weakness.

If anything, the kick shows how superior an athlete and how super prepared Silva is. I've never seen those kicks work that well in MMA. And yet, Silva executes it perfectly and drops Belfort.

You can only execute that kick if you're a superior ground fighter because any other fighter gets taken down. Vitor knows this and probably isn't expecting it because he knows he can't shoot to take down Anderson. Silva's just too good on the ground.

That's what makes the kick even more incredible.

Video: Steven Seagal taught Silva his own variation of that front kick. Not a fluke kick, the intention was for Belfort to think it was coming to the body. Heres the interview. http://www.mmafighting.com/2011/02/...-about-teaching-anderson-silva-front-kick-to/

So now Seagal has invited the front-snap kick? :laugh2:

That was so basic it wasn't even funny (Belfort doesn't think so either). The only think that separates Anderson's kick from any other karate expert is that Anderson has the flexibility to get his toes up to someone's head.

Anyone else with that ability could execute that kick too.

The reason you don't see it more is because many guys who are great kickers are poor on the ground. And if you bring your leg that high against a submission expert, you're going to get taken to the ground.

Because Anderson is excellent at stand-up and on the ground, a guy like Belfort (who is more a striker even though he has BJJ experience) aren't thinking about taking someone like Silva to the ground because he (Anderson) is great on his back.

I'm surprised no one here has mentioned the Silva/Franklin Fights. or the Silva/Henderson Fight.
Or any of his fights BEFORE these. Coming into the UFC, he absolutely annihilated his opposition and created the buzz that is still there today. He's known as a lethal striker with a very solid ground game. And his athletic ability and unpredictable strikes, make him one of the most feared fighters in the sport. Yes, his last few fights prior to Belfort, were all pretty boring. But if you simply look at the fights before this, I'm sure you'll be impressed. If the Franklin KO(s) don't impress you, then I'm not sure what more you're looking for in MMA.

One thing you will just need to get used to with Anderson is that he will usually use the first minute or two of a fight to get his distance, and then attack.

Anderson has for years trained an abnormal amount of boxing, studying Roy Jones Jr. and mimicking him quite a bit even in the cage. Watch his taunts, and watch his feinting to see how much he copies Roy's style.

Even I would love to see the old muay thai striker that Anderson really is come out more often than it does. But his hands are simply good enough that he doesn't mix it up as much as he used to.

But if you want to see why Anderson is thought of the way he is ..

On another note, JMO, but I'm secretly hoping that Anderson gets past GSP and Shogun gets by Jones. I want to see Shogun vs Anderson more than any fight in the world (besides Pac vs PBF) right now. Put those two in the cage together and I would actually pay for a PPV. :D

I don't know much about this sport yet. I have heard so much about Silva but the 4 fights I have seen were not impressive.

I do not make many predictions on stuff I do not know. But he loses tonight.

I have never seen the challenger fight. I just am that unimpressed with Silva.

Excellent reason to keep watching. :)

Anderson is unimpressive a lot now, at 185, because he has absolutely no competition at 185. There is no one currently at 185, who didn't fail a drug test, who has, or can, even give him an interesting fight.

His fights he's had at 205 have been more entertaining than his recent 185 fights because those people are bigger and aren't afraid to try and engage with him, which has still gotten them knocked out for their trouble, but at 185 they're, for the most part, afraid of trying to throw with him which leads to very boring fights.
