anyone advanced enough to get from there to here would only take one look at Earth and then move on. Nothing to see here.

I can't say I disagree. It would be much like us walking near an anthill in the grass next to the sidewalk. Might be neat to bend down at take a quick peek but they can offer us nothing to advance our society. I know that is probably the most cliche' analogy but it does hold it's weight.
