Houston risksbeing caughtin middle in bidto go big time

I already can picture Les Miles roaming TDECU Stadium next fall on a bright Saturday morning, searching for the perfect piece of (fake) grass to chomp on as his Cougars flood the field and sold-out stands roar.

Major Applewhite makes sense. Same for Todd Orlando, especially if the duo can co-exist as a local power pair.

Art Briles? Are you freaking kidding me, University of Houston? Don't let Baylor's fallen idol even appear on your "Tom Herman replacement" list. Heck, don't let Briles anywhere near Cullen Boulevard ever again. He already left once, remember?

So who will the Coogs pick to sew up the still-bleeding wound that is Herman wearing burnt orange in Austin?

We'll see. Thankfully, the already hyped solution is apparently coming soon.

Tilman Fertitta, a multibillionaire who's quickly becoming UH's unofficial athletics spokesman, said Wednesday he wants to nail down the next guy ASAP. Who knew national search firms conducted background checks so fast?

Honestly, why would an already big name coach want to go to Houston? I'm not trying to be insulting, but there isn't a lot of reason to go to Houston over another bigger named school.

Especially since Houston has been cheap and inconsistent in their promises.

There is a reason coaches keep flying the coop. If Houston wants to keep a great coach. They are likely going to have to find the next one as an unknown as they have in the past and then protect him by changing their ways. Commit or get out of the kitchen.

It is insulting... but it's you, sooo.. lol

Seriously.. in the past, I'd agree, but the last 10 years, UH has done ALOT and I mean ALOT towards improving it's overall stature. Not just in athletics, but academics, as well. I love the president. Her whole goal is all about putting UH on the national stage and it's taken awhile to get people to buy in and not treat it as another commuter school. New dorms. Improved infrastructure of the university... The athletic program needed a complete overhaul.. Not just new office chairs. When it's all said and done, UH is trending up, but like the article said, they need to go big. Whether they can get a "name" guy or not, don't settle which is what they did after Sumlin left. Herman was an awesome hire, but considering where they got him, we knew he was temporary.

Two reasons, actually:

P5's can offer an opportunity to win a NC. We can't, because people who work for the have's control access to the playoff.

P5's can afford to outbid any offer we can make because the have's control the tv money too.

Since 2011 my school is 8-2 vs P5 programs. We're on a 6 game winning streak vs teams that were ranked when we played them and a 4 game streak vs top 10's (second longest active streaks behind Bama). According to the P5's and ESPN/Fox, none of that @#%$!@ matters.

I'm tired of being excluded. I'm tired of entitled P5 fans telling me this is somehow our fault, or that this is the way things should be. I'm tired of seeing garbage programs bring home $20-30 million a year in tv money when we have to make do with $2-3 million.

I'm just tired.

Kudos to Houston for saying Briles is not a candidate. His career is over!

If it was just about football then Briles would have made sense because I actually think he'd stay there for the rest of his career since he's not young and no P5 school will touch him.
