Unbelievable stat

Such stuff could inspire a good move entitled "Against All Odds." (Doing so much wrong to make everything turn out right!) :muttley:

Here is another interesting stat:

The Cowboy defense is #2 in points allowed by only 9 points behind the Ravens.....and the Ravens play the Chiefs next.

Now consider this:

Despite the great defenses of the past, Doomsday l and II, the 90's, Parcell's 3-4, etc.........despite the defensive minded coaches......the Cowboys have NEVER ended the season ranked #1 in opponent scoring.

That's the result of (1) a quickly improving and stout defense, and (2) games that have very few possessions because of the style Dallas plays.

No team milks the clock like Dallas does.

A goal worth pursuing.

So our offense is so bad we almost blew a historically dominant defensive performance. Basically if we want to win the Super Bowl, we need to make history for the remainder of the season.

The Cowboys great win last Thursday was unusual in several ways. I heard an amazing stat today on The Ticket’s “Bad Radio” show today.

The stat is this: 2-316-1.

That’s the record of NFL teams when they have this kind of offensive performance and STILL WIN:
1. 13 points
2. Give up 7 sacks
3. Lose the turnover battle 2-1.

Yeah...it’s only the second time in NFL HISTORY a team had those 3 stat lines and still won a game!

That’s a testament to how dominant our defense was last Thursday.

Exactly. Had someone told me that Zeke would be held to 75 yards rushing and we turned the ball over twice, I would have said there is no chance we would win.

The defense played a helluva game

How they had the ball that long and only scored 13 points is beyond me. And they didn't miss field goals or anything.

Gameplan. It was keep-away from Brees. Plus Dak lost the ball in scoring position when La'el Collins got blown up by Cameron Jordan and the Cowboys' knelt on the ball to kill the clock inside the 5 late in the game.

So Dallas may have scored 27 if everything worked out right, but they still won, so it's all good, at least this week.

It’s pretty interesting. I think you have to consider, the base of the stat is that teams don’t really win many games with 13 points, regardless of what else happened. Teams are just 6-52 this year when scoring 13 points or less. Add in losing the turnover battle and you go down to 1-35. From that point throwing in extra negatives like sacks probably isn’t moving the needle all that much.

When you only score 13 points, you lose more than 90% of the time.

When you only score 13 points, but your QB has a passer rating above 100, you win more than 60% of the time.

Agreed. In fact, I would say that two of the most important contributors to the Cowboy defense is Zeke and Cooper for the way they extend drives and keep the oponent on the sidelines.

You could see the frustration building on Brees's face, in particular when the Cowboys would convert 3rd and long.

A goal worth pursuing.
Certainly.

There has been one occasion in which the Cowboys ended the season ranked #1 in yardage AND #2 in points allowed

Ironically, it was the 2003 season, Parcell's first with the Cowboy's.

This means he did it with a "lame duck" 4-3. He planned and did change to a 3-4 the following season. He only kept the 4-3 that season because he didn't have the time or personnel to play a 3-4.

And two seasons prior the defense did blow an histiorcally dominant offensive performance.

It's crazy how quickly things change... great defensive drafting combined with the unfortunate events surrounding key offensive performers like Dez, Witten, Tyron, and Frederick....multiple Pro Bowlers and All Pros.

We are not so far away from having both sides elite.

And they did it against NO this year.

But, when you only pick the bad things for the offense, it looks more amazing than it was. Besides the sacks and fumbles, the offense had a good day. 3rd down conversions over 50%. Over 300 yards.

And considering how the defense tried to give the game away with self inflicted penalties it makes it even more amazing.

And how poor our offense was too. I am not feeling good about the Eagles game. Prescott is not getting it done.

One thing people keep forgetting is they kneeled down on the one yard line. That’s 7 points right there. So that’s why you can win a 13 point game when you were about to score 20.
