Under MM, Cowboys had first back-to-back playoff appearances under one coach since 1998-99

Not to get off topic, but a one-and-done playoff game is more of a crapshoot than a best of five or best of seven series will ever be.
Maybe you should watch the games and you would know

Baseball postseason is a massive crapshoot. Much more than the nfl. We (braves) have got our work cut out in October.
Scalding truth. The best-in-league Rangers ;) will have short sample-sizes to prove their juggernaut abilities.

I don’t think I realized this until just now:

Under MM, the Cowboys have had their first back-to-back playoff appearances under one coach since 1998-99 under Chan Gailey.

We went btb in ‘06-‘07 under different coaches (Phillips/Parcells).

I want SBs like everyone else, but just making the playoffs would be the first time we made them in 3 consecutive years since the nice run ended in 1996 (6 years in a row).

Team record: 9 appearances in a row, ending in 1983.
It's hard to win a Super Bowl, Brady/Mahomes are the outliners. You have to get into the tournament to have a chance for a run.

I was ok with that point of view until like 10 years after the last SB win. Of course you are among the other 31 teams more often than not. But not being even close for almost 30 years? That's a disgrace.

These are the friggin Dallas Cowboys. Salary Cap or not, I expect better from them. So you and everyone else enjoy those regular season wins. It's not that I don't like them or anything.

Other than that, since a couple of years the "real" season begins in January for me. Everything else before that is just the warm up.

Just don't tell other Cowboy fans what to do and what not. That's a real annoyance with the Homers over these last couple of years.
Then that makes me ask, why bother even posting here if the season doesn't interest you until January? I know people that only watch the SB or the WS. They wouldn't take a minute out of their days to comment on either sport, even their favorite teams.

We've been two wins away from the SB 4 times in the last 10 years. I'm too lazy to look up how many other teams can say that, but I'd bet it's way less than half the league. I guess it's one's point of view if that means that the team is deficient or not.

What I think is more important this isn't just about the back-to-back 12 win seasons.. It's more about how we built this team upward the last three years in all three phases we probably had one of the better teams we've had since 1995.. And we have the coaches to match the energy so will we get further this year I don't know.. But this is probably the best record and the playoff appearances and just everything seems to be in place..

You still gotta back it up with big wins and getting to an NFC championship game but I believe it's not about back-to-back playoff appearance it's it's how we are gone about it...

So what are you saying right now, they are just barely good here?
They are what they accomplish, and being one of 14 teams to make the playoffs is fine, but not really that impressive.

Going out with a whimper two years in a row is not impressive. Offensively, they just turn to mush when it really matters. Change that, and we'll have something to talk about.

That used to be the standard of this franchise.

That’s a point that most people miss. Football is entertainment. All 4 SB losses under Levy were successful seasons and very entertaining…..until the SB losses. Two of those years were VERY entertaining for Cowboys fans.

If it’s SB or bust, then 31 teams’ fans are going to be miserable every year. I hear the same thing in all sports: ‘The regular season doesn’t matter! Did we win a championship?’

I’ve been a Cowboys and Braves fan since the 60’s. The regular season absolutely matters. It blows worse than anything when my teams are not competitive during the regular season. Of course I want championships, but I’m not going to lose my mind if my teams don’t get one. Well, unless the Braves don’t get one this year. That would be a travesty on the order of the Cowboys jacking up a season after going 13-3.
It can be more complicated than that.

Here in Tampa, our baseball Rays seem constant underdogs. Small market, small budget often small crowds. A stadium future in disarray.

When we make the playoffs and win some we're thrilled.

On the other hand, our powerhouse hockey Lightening? We expect them to go deep or win it...however...we adore them so much it's okay if we don't.

My Cowboys....making the playoffs...I EXPECT IT! Tradition, excellence. I'm disappointed when we don't, disappointed when we get kicked out right away.

So there are many aspects to this...the sense of community.... sensibilities? Expectations? Not sure what it's called.

Well, we were used to making the playoffs every year with the teams that Jimmy Johnson built. For some reason Jerry thought it was a good idea to destroy them and the fabric that made this organization so great. I don't think we'll ever know why he did that.

I like the playoff format better now, but I wish the LDS was 7 games. Much more likely that the best team wins imo.

Our bullpen has been great all year and then…..Philly. I just want to hit their mascot with a cinder block. We should have swept with ease, but we’ll take 3 of 4.

I think our middle relievers and closers will get it together. It’ll be a HUGE disappointment if we don’t win the pennant. Another WS win would be sweetness. Being in Atlanta now makes watching them that much better. I have tickets to several games this month. Hopefully we’ll get some cooler (i.e, not in the 90’s) weather.

A Cowboys SB and Braves WS win? Sporting nirvana!
Did some research because I knew the crapshoot was real , brace yourself

Only 12 times since 1969 has the team w the best record in baseball won the World Series. It’s not going to be easy.

Yeah, the bar has been set so low now. One and done is considered an achievement. It says more about how far the franchise has fallen, than the excellence of MM. And how Landry is very underestimated by many on this forum.

If you don't get past the divisional round, did you really make the playoffs?

I mean, almost half the league makes the playoffs. Big deal.

It's what you do when you get there that matters
So you will settle for a participation trophy? That's what you're implying, at least make the championship game. I thought yall old timers was against participation trophies?

Buffalo made 4 SB’s in a row and lost them all, I wonder if their fans are happy with those 4 appearances.
I’m sure their fans are happy with the appearances, but not with the results. It’s just hard to imagine how any team could lose four consecutive Super Bowls and every one of them were to NFC East opponents.
