There is no way that Barbers guaranteed (21 million / 7 years = 3million) and TNew's (22.5 million / 6 years = 2.5 million) fit under less than 4 million under the salary cap. Does this mean we don't sign Felix Jones and Mike Jenkins and all the rest of the rookies or does it mean we cut some big salaries? Who is it? These numbers just don't add up.

You're likely freakin' out over nothing. I would imagine that Jerry, and Stephen, knew exactly what they had to do in these deals to get under the cap. Calm down.

We can restructure several deals to make these and even more fit.

Normally the new salaries are really low so it adds to the cap. They just get a big signing bonus to make up the difference in the salary.

That's be pretty funny if Jerry signed these guys to new deals that put us in a position to not be able to sign our rookies.

And by funny, I mean not funny at all.

I'm sure Jerry has this figured out and in the end if we have to restructure contracts then Dallas will do it.

Golly gee, I really hope Jerry thought about the salary cap implications of these signings before he made them!!!

See that's the part I'm not understanding. I went and researched it on the internet about how to calculate cap hits and the cap hit is the signing bonus divided by the number of years of the contract + the yearly salary so the numbers I posted above don't even include those amounts. So my question is.. how are we doing this math magic? I would just like to understand. Hey, I don't care how we get them signed, I just don't want to get hammered by the Sheriff because we know if there is any way in the world for Goodell to punish the Cowboys, he'll pounce on it. :banghead:

Please, we're talking about the most bumbling GM ever.

Of course he didn't. Luckily we have Stephen who can fix it.

Was that $4 million under the cap an accurate number to begin with? Did that number already include money set aside that is assumed would be needed to sign the rookies? Do we yet know how the contracts(Newman's and Barber's) are set up and how much base salary is allocated for each year? There is a lot of information out there that we don't know. It isn't anything magical or anything. Jerry and Stephen just have the hard figures that you and I don't or the media for that matter.

I believe we have to account for the rule of 51 as well.

Scratch that, they were already on the books so that wouldn't apply. What I meant to say was their salaries are already on the books as part of that 4 million under.

It also entirely possible we already in the process of restructuring some contracts; also don't forget we don't need the rookie draft pool money until we prepared to spend it which is always within 2-3 weeks before TC begins usually around July 24th.

I think this is more about you not understanding the cap than the numbers not adding up

do you need someone to come to your emotional rescue?

it's quite likely if they don't add up you don't have all the numbers. there's no way jones can be paying these players against the rules, it wouldn't work in the end and cause him more grief.

have a beer. chill out. wait for more info.

or panic and freak out and have some energy drinks!

I'll leave the explaining to Adam since he knows it better than I do.
