I thought I would share this comprehensive, in-depth review of the best center in the league:

http://insidethepylon.com/nfl/teams...owboys/2017/06/12/icroscope-travis-frederick/

It's a tremendous, detailed analysis that shows why our guy is the best at what he does. This is the level of detail and information that I truly appreciate and I hope you all do too.

In my opinion, Center is 2nd in importance only to the LT on the line. The line didnt start coming together until this guy showed up. He is the key to our line.

He is the brains for sure. The line really came together when Martin came in though. Those fundamentals he possesses are a huge lift to the line. It makes things a lot easier when you know in your head you dont have to take up for the guy next to you because hes going to do his job.

Excellent find Stash, thanks for sharing!

You have to think that Frederick affords the Cowboys the ability to plug'n'play a LG of lesser ability moreso than Tyron Smith with the way Frederick understands this game and how to setup and assist on blocks. That's not a knock on Tyron, by any means. But I do believe Frederick helps the OL as a whole more than any one player.

I was so happy we drafted him. Watching replays and focusing in on Gurode I was like:

Your memory deceives you. Gurode was long gone by 2013.

At any rate, you were likely one of the few who was happy to see him drafted at #31. Most thought it was a terrible reach. Shows what the average draftnik knows.

Same here. He's #1 for me too in terms of importance.

And he and Zack Martin are a big part of why I have faith in things working out with Collins and Cooper. I think their experience, know-how, and quality of play, along with obvious work ethic, will raise the others level of play just by association.

I was talking about watching Gurode on replays during the Wade era and being disgusted by his play. I never saw Phil Costa as the answer (couldn't stay healthy anyway), but Gurode was a nightmare to watch with his mind boggling decisions and not know what the play was. Furthermore, Kosier had to make the line calls.

Costa's inability to stay healthy and then the disaster that was 2012 when we couldn't keep any center healthy rendered any argument a moot point because I cannot expect a 6th string center to be good. I really questioned if the Cowboys would ever draft a center high again and when they drafted Frederick who came from Wisconsin, I was delighted.

The problem for Frederick is while his 10-yard and 40-yard splits were slow, he could have made that up with his bench press. But, Wisconsin utilizes a different weight training program as Joe Thomas' bench press reps were mediocre as well.

I actually believe that any good player in the NFL can have some sort of measurable that explains why they are good. The problem is that the combine only measures a limited amount of variables. And that's how players like Frederick get downgraded after the combine.

Im sticking with Frederick. We couldnt run the ball until he got there. Martin made us one of the best line when he came.

I will agree on that. But if you dont have a solid LT, the center doesnt matter.

Oh, I'm not diminishing the left tackle position at all, and we have a great one there thankfully. But I think our line has lived and died with center play. We've "gotten by" with average left tackles, but when our centers sucked, our offense sucked.

I subscribe to the adage that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line.

Oh no doubt and with Old man Tyron Smith being only 26 we still have a good five years of having this dominate line together
